Easy Holiday Side Dishes: For Everyday or Special Occasions
Certain side dishes make most people think about holiday dinners. For Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving, my mom would prepare a ham, a turkey, and a buffet of great-tasting side dishes. My family has always enjoyed cornbread stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, corn casserole, baked apples, and other great sides on special occasions.
My husband and I actually prepare ham and turkey throughout the year. With our busy work schedules, it's easy to roast a turkey breast or bake a ham on the weekend to enjoy for evening meals and even office lunches throughout the week. Having these items in the fridge can be a great time saver throughout the week.
However, you can only eat so many ham and turkey sandwiches without getting sick of them. Traditional holiday side dishes make a great non-holiday break from the same old meal ideas. From time-to-time, I enjoy making holiday side dishes from scratch. However, more often than not, I don't have the time to bake sweet potatoes or create stuffing from scratch.
Holiday Serving Bowls
Country Crock Heat and Serve Side Dishes
I recently discovered a great shortcut for easy holiday side dishes that is convenient, affordable, and easy to keep on hand for any time the mood strikes. Country Crock has created a line of heat-and-serve side dishes that cover all the bases when it comes to comfort food side dishes.
They are served in containers that I describe as "butter tubs," meaning that they are the type of sealed plastic bowls that spreadable butter and margarine can be purchased in. They are available in your grocer's freezer, and are clearly stamped with an expiration date.
Country Crock Side Dish Options
Country Crock side dishes come in several different varieties. I haven't tried them all yet, but the ones I have tasted are delicious. My favorites are the baked apples (they remind me of the great side dish served at Cracker Barrel restaurant) and the sweet potatoes. My husband, who can eat stuffing at every meal, fell in love with the stuffing.
Other varieties include:
- Cheddar Broccoli Rice
- Chicken Rice with Herbs
- Macaroni and Cheese
- Mashed Potatoes (regular, loaded, garlic, or cheddar)
- Scalloped Potatoes
Great Holiday Side Dish Shortcut
If you're looking for a shortcut to serve a holiday-style meal for regular meal occasions, you won't find an easier way to offer your family a variety of traditional, tasty side dishes. They are also great for holiday meals as well. They're great for transporting to dinners held at other people's houses, because of the sealable and microwave safe packaging. When I don't have the time (or inclination) to create homemade side dishes, Country Crock sides are going to be my go-to choice!
