How to Make a Milkshake

Quick and Easy Milkshake Recipes

The milkshake recipe may be one of the best foodie inventions ever. Who doesn't like milkshakes? What's not to love? Ice cream and your favorite flavor all blended together to make it drinkable. Here are a couple of my favorite milkshake recipes for your drinking enjoyment- a chocolate milkshake recipe and a recipe for strawberry milk shakes. Each milkshake recipe is for one delicious serving.

Thick Chocolate Milkshake Recipe

Put everything in a blender and process until smooth. Drink and enjoy your chocolate milkshake! Better than restaurant milk shakes!

This milkshake recipe is aptly named. If you like your milkshake recipe to be more thin, add up to 1/2 cup (total, not in addition to), milk.

If you really like intense chocolate flavor, add a tablespoon of chocolate syrup.

Thick Chocolate Milkshake Ingredients

  • 1 c. vanilla or chocolate ice cream
  • 1/4 c. cream, half and half, or whole milk
  • 6 teaspoons powdered chocolate flavored drink mix

Easy Strawberry Milkshake Recipe

1 c. strawberry ice cream
1 c. fresh or frozen strawberries
1/2 c. cream, half and half, or whole milk
1 tablespoon sugar, optional

Put all milkshake ingredients in a blender. Mix well.

Milkshake Recipe Tips

Both of these milkshake recipes are definitely better with cream. Try at least to use whole milk. If not available or for diet considerations, skim milk may also be used.

Vanilla ice cream can be used with either milkshake recipe for a less intense flavor.

Don't be afraid to experiment with milk shake recipes. It's hard to go wrong when making a milk shake. If it's too thick, add liquid. If it's too thin, add more ice cream.

Also experiment with different milkshake ingredients and flavors. Use different ice cream flavors. Try adding ice cubes for a different texture. Substitute yogurt for some or all of the ice cream. You can add vanilla, peppermint extract, and other flavorings. Add other fruits-banana is good. Peanut butter tastes great in milk shakes, too.
