Fish contains minerals like zinc, potassium, iron, magnesium, and iodine. It is also rich in phosphorus and calcium. Fish contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for brain and body development and also contains vitamins such as B2 and D. Fish is a high quality protein diet with low fat. It is also a healthy diet for heart patients and diabetic patients. It is good to take fish in any form twice a week.

Here are some spicy and delicious South Indian Fish Recipes.

1. Spicy South Indian Fish Curry – Fish curry is a tasty and spicy main dish recipe.

Ingredients:


Fish Pieces – 750 Grams

Tamarind – 50 Grams

Onions – 2 (Finely Chopped)

Green Chillies – 4 (Sliced)

Ginger-Garlic Paste – 2 Tablespoons

Turmeric Powder – 1 Tablespoon

Chilli Powder – 2 Tablespoons

Cardamon – 1

Cloves – 5

Cinnamon Stick – 1 (small)

Cumin Seeds – 1 Tablespoon

Fenugreek Seeds – 1/4 Tablespoon

Coriander Seeds – 2 Tablespoons

Rice – 2 Tablespoons

Curry Leaves – As Needed

Coriander Leaves – As Needed

Water – As Needed

Oil – 5 Tablespoons

Salt – As Needed


Preparation Method:

First wash the fish pieces neatly and take them into a bowl. Now add half-tablespoon turmeric powder and half-tablespoon salt to fish pieces and mix them and keep them aside for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, take a pan, keep it on stove, light it, and add two tablespoons of oil. After the oil gets heat, add the fish pieces and fry them for 2 minutes on each side on medium flame. Now switch off the stove, transfer the fish pieces into a plate and keep them aside.

Take the tamarind in a bowl, add some water, and soak it for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, extract the tamarind pulp and keep it aside.

Now, we have to prepare masala powder for curry. First take a pan, keep it on stove, and light it. After the pan gets heat, add cinnamon stick, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, coriander seeds, cloves, and cardamon and fry them for 2 minutes on low flame and transfer them into a mixie jar. Now add rice to the same pan and fry them on low flame until the color of the rice changes to light brown color. Now switch off the stove, transfer them into the same mixie jar, and grind them into fine powder. Now masala powder is ready, transfer it from mixie jar into a bowl, and keep it aside.

Now, take a wide pan, put it on stove, light it, and add oil. After oil gets heat, add finely chopped onions, sliced green chillies, curry leaves and fry them until the color of the onions changes to light golden brown on medium flame. After the color of the onions changes to light golden brown, add turmeric powder and ginger-garlic paste and fry them until the raw flavor of the ginger-garlic paste disappears. Now add chilli powder and tamarind pulp and mix them well and cook it for 2 minutes. Now add water and salt as needed, cover the pan with a lid and let it boil. After the mixture boils, add masala powder and mix it well and now add the fried fish pieces and cook it for 5 minutes by covering the pan with a lid. After 5 minutes, remove the lid and add coriander leaves and cook it for 2 minutes. Now switch off the stove and transfer the fish curry into a serving bowl. Tasty and spicy fish curry is ready. It tastes good with rice or chapati.


2. Spicy South Indian Fish Fry – It is a simple, tasty, and spicy side dish recipe and also a snack recipe.

Ginger-Garlic Paste – 1/4 Tablespoon

Lime Juice – 1 Tablespoon

Salt – As Needed

First wash the fish pieces neatly and take them into a plate. Now, we have to marinate the fish pieces. To marinate fish pieces, take a plate, add turmeric powder, salt as needed, ginger-garlic paste, chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, black pepper powder, and lime juice and mix them well. Now apply this mixture to the fish pieces evenly and marinate them for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, take a pan, keep it on stove, light it, and add oil into the pan. After the oils gets heat, add marinated fish pieces, and fry them on low flame for 20 minutes on both sides evenly. Now add curry leaves and fry them for 1 minute. Switch off the stove and transfer them into a serving plate. Very tasty, simple, and spicy fish fry is ready. It can be served as a side dish with rice, roti, and chapati and also as a snack along with sliced onions and lime.
