Flaxseed Provides 800 Times More Plant Lignans

Dietary fiber is a major component of flaxseed. Dietary fiber in flaxseed is both soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber will lower blood cholesterol level. Insoluble fiber will regulate bowel movement and prevent constipation. Flaxseed will provide 800 times more plant lignans than most other vegetarian diets. Lignans are phytoestrogens that protect against cancers and blocks substances which participate in formation of tumors.

High Ration of Omega-3 to Omega-6

Flaxseed has a positive influence on blood cholesterol levels to laxation, from cancer to heart diseases and immune systems. 70 percent of flaxseed fat is polyunsaturated with a high ration of omega-3 to omega-6 fat both of which are essential fats that must part of the diet as the body is unable to manufacturer them from any other sources.

Coronary Heart Disease and Stroke

50 percent of flaxseed fat is alpha-linolenic acid which is omega-3 fat that protects against both coronary heart disease and stroke. Omega-3 will also protect against hypertension, cancer, inflammatory and autoimmune disorders.

Attractive Garnish for Baked Products

And because of flaxseed unique shape and color, flaxseeds are attractive garnish for baked products such as bread, cookies, muffins, bagels and other baked products as they improve volume and texture of the products.

Fascinating Results

Milled flax seeds and incorporated in animal feeds produces fascinating results. Eggs from hens fed on flaxseed diet have 9 times more omega-3 fatty acids than regular eggs. When the hen digests the alphalinolenic fatty acid (ALA), it is broken down into EPA and DHA - all the three good fatty acids end up in egg yolk.

Omega-3 Enhanced Foods

Adding flax animal diets increases the level of omega-3 fatty acid in the meat as well as better animal health. Flax is also a common ingredient in brands of pet foods. In the market place you will find omega-3 enhanced foods like milk, yoghurts and margarines.

Mercury In Fish

Fish has a value in its high quality protein and nutrient content, including omega-3 fats. Consumers are usually cautioned about traces of mercury in fish from certain waters. Usually pregnant and nursing women, women may conceive soon and young children are advised to avoid eating such fish.

Same Healthy Eating Plan

Fish contain high quality protein and omega-3 fats. Fish are rich in DHA. Both flaxseed and fish contain important nutrients and belong in the same healthy eating plan. The difference is that flax plant is a sustainable crop but fish may not be sustainable in the coming years.
