Fruit salads are an easy, make-ahead dish to prepare for family meals, holiday dinners, office parties, dinner parties, and other occasions.

Enjoy the following selection of fruit salad recipe ideas, ranging from simple mixed fruit salads to frozen delights that can serve double duty as a dessert.

4 Tasty Fruit Salad Recipes

1. Mixed Fruit Salad


  • 1 can pineapple chunks, drained (20 ounces)
  • 1 can peach pie filling (20 ounces)
  • 1 can sliced peaches, drained (15 ounces)
  • 1 can sliced apricots, drained (15 ounces)
  • 1 can Mandarin orange slices, drained (11 ounces)
  • 1 bag frozen whole strawberries, thawed and drained (8 ounces)

Preparation Instructions:

Combine all ingredients, mixing well. Chill at least 8 hours before serving.

2. Cherry Pineapple Cola Salad


  • 1 can bing cherries (15 ounces)
  • 1 can crushed pineapple (20 ounces)
  • 12 ounces cola beverage (your favorite brand)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (regular or low fat will work, do not use fat free)
  • 3/4 cup pecans or walnuts
  • 2 packages cherry gelatin mix (6 ounces)

Preparation Instructions:

Drain the juice from the cherries and pineapples in a medium saucepan. Heat over a medium heat, and dissolve cream cheese in warm juice. Add cherry gelatin mix to fruit juice and cream cheese mixture. Mix well. Add cola, fruit, and nuts. Pour in mold and chill until set.

3. Sour Cream Fruit Salad

  • 1 can pineapple chunks, drained (20 ounces)
  • 1 can Mandarin orange slices, drained (11 ounces)
  • 1/2 pound seedless white or red grapes
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup miniature marshmallows
  • 8 ounces of sour cream (regular or reduced fat will work; do not use fat free)

Preparation Instructions:

Mix all ingredients together, blending well. Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours prior to serving.

4. Frozen Fruit Salad


  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup Splenda (or sugar, depending on preference)
  • 1 can pineapple chunks (20 ounces)
  • 2 cans mandarin oranges (11 ounces)
  • 1 can frozen orange juice concentrate (6 ounces)

Preparation Instructions:

Thaw the orange juice concentrate. Drain the oranges and slice the bananas. Combine all ingredients, including the juice from the pineapple chunks. Mix well, and pour the fruit and juice mixture into a 9 X 13 casserole dish. Cover and freeze. Remove just before serving, and slice.
