Green Peas Pulao - Pulav Rice Recipe and Preperation
Making Green Peas Pulao or Mattar Pulav
I often make Green Peas Pulao at home especially when we have visitors. This recipe is quite easy to make and tastes great.
How to prepare fresh green peas rice? Making this recipe takes less than 45 minutes to prepare. Given are the ingredients and method of preparation of Green Peas Pulao also known as Mattar Pulav or just Peas Rice in India.
Ingredients of Green Peas Pulao
- 1 cup Basmati Rice
- 1 finely chopped onion
- ½ Cup fresh Green Peas
- 2 green chilies slit on middle
- 1 tsp fresh ginger paste
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- ½ tsp cloves
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
- Cinnamon stick
- 1 star anise
- 2 bay leaves
- Oil
- Ghee
- Finely cut Coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
Method of Preparation of Green Peas Pulao
Soak the basmati rice in water for 15 – 20 minutes. Heat oil in a thick bottomed kadai and add cumin seeds. After a minute or so add green chillies, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, bay leaves, ginger paste and garlic paste and fry for 2 minutes. Now add Onion to the mixture and sauté for another 2 minutes. Once done add green peas, coriander powder, cumin powder ,black pepper powder and salt and fry for another 2 minutes. Now add rice to the kadai and fry for a minute. Add 3 cups of water and allow the rice to cook in low flame after closing the lid. Once the rice is ready remove from flame. Add ghee to the rice and mix well without mashing the rice. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with papad and dal fry.
Note: You may also use frozen green peas instead of fresh peas used in the recipe.
