Gumdrop Cookies For the Holidays.

1 cup of gumdrops Either Spice or regular.

3/4 cup ground up chopped walnuts.

1/2 cup raisins.

1 3/4 cup all purpose flour (divided)

1/2 cup shortening or butter.

1 cup packed brown sugar.

1 egg

1/3 cup buttermilk

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt


Cut the gumdrops into small pieces. Dont use and of the black ones, This doesnt make your cookies look any better.  Place the gum drops in to a small bowl and set aside. Add the walnuts to this bowl along with the raisins and 1/4 cup of flour.Toss to coat. And set it aside.

Step 2:

In a mixing bowl, cream the shortening and the brown sugar. Add the egg and beat in the buttermilk.Combine the baking soda salt and remaining flour. Stir into the creamed mixture. Add the gumdrops mixture and mix well. Chill for one hour.

Last Step:

Drop by rounded teaspoons 2 inchs apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 400 degrees' for 8-10 mintues. Cool for 2 minutes before you remove to wire racks. This will yield about 3 dozen cookies.
