Healthy Snack Idea: Funky Monkey Dried Fruit Snacks

Updated on September 27, 2008

Looking for a healthy and tasty snack that you can enjoy right out of the bag? These delicious and nutritious snacks are an all natural treat that can be enjoyed any time. They are great for children and adults alike. This terrific crunchy dried fruit snack is suitable for even individuals with special dietary needs. Funky Monkey dried fruit snacks are dairy free, wheat free, and gluten free. They're also certified Kosher.

Unique Freeze Drying Process

Made in Brazil with fresh tropical fruits that are freeze dried when they reach peak ripeness, these snacks offer consumers a delicious option for enjoying dried tropical fruits at their most flavorful. The freeze drying process used to make Funky Monkey freeze dried snacks is a unique process that removes about 97 percent of the moisture from the fruit, leaving a crunchy, crisp texture for snackers to enjoy.

According to Matt Herzog, President of Funky Monkey Snacks, "Our freeze drying process locks in the great smell and taste of fresh fruit while preserving all of the goodness." He continues, "Our four flavors are like wonder snacks. They have the taste and smell of fresh fruit that everyone loves with the convenience and portability of everyday snacks. And each one ounce bag contains three servings of fruit."

Flavor Varieties

Funky Monkey dried fruit snacks are available in several flavors, including:

  • Bananamon - a unique and delicious combination of banana and cinnamon
  • Carnaval Mix - an unusual combination of fruit flavors, featuring a blend of banana, pineapple, apple, papaya and raisins
  • Jivealime- a tart combination of pineapple and lime juice
  • Purple Funk - a tasty blend of banana and antioxidant rich a├žai berries

Healthy Snacking

Too many people rely on fatty, sugar-filled snacks, or so-called healthy snack options that are actually packed with preservatives or high fructose corn syrup. According to the USDA Food Pyramid, everyone needs to consume a few servings of fruit each day. The vast majority of Americans don't eat as much fruit as is recommended. By keeping a supply of Funky Monkey dried fruit snacks on hand, you'll make it just as easy for your family members to enjoy a healthy, real fruit snack as it is to grab a bag of chips or other heavily processed snack food.

Shopping for Funky Monkey Snacks

Funky Monkey dried fruit snacks are a relatively new introduction to the U.S. market. They're available from, as well as at a variety of grocery and natural foods stores throughout the U.S. They're available at Whole Foods and Wild Oats stores, as well as in some of the Kroger supermarkets.

Haven't tried the Jivealime and Purple Funk. Is the acai berry a strong flavor in the Purple Funk? My family doesn't care for the taste of those berries.

These are pricey, but so much healthier than the other bagged, portable "fruit", AKA fruit flavored sugar and syrup.
