Ice cream is great summer dessert! You can buy it anywhere and eat it as a quick dessert.

The problem is that bought ice cream is not very healthy dessert. It contains lots of preservatives and artificial colors. Most ice creams have the same base and they get the color and the taste by adding different colors and additives in it.

Those additives and preservatives can be harmful for your health, but they can be even more harmful for children’s health. Assuming that the children actually eat more ice cream than adults, it is worth making a healthy homemade ice cream, which will actually be a healthy dessert.

Unless you buy plan vanilla or chocolate ice cream, there is a great chance that the fruit ice cream bought in the supermarket contains no fruits at all!

So, why not try making ice cream at home? You can use all kinds of ingredients that are healthy for children, such as fruits, milk, cheese, yoghurt and even nuts.

Here are three homemade ice cream recipe ideas you kids will just love. Improvise a little bit while making ice cream and your kids can enjoy their special ice creams sticks at home. Add chocolate or berry sauces and the fun will continue!

Making Ice Cream: Strawberry Ice Cream

Homemade ice cream recipe: Strawberry ice cream


INGREDIENTS:

18oz strawberries (you can also add some blackberries and raspberries)

¼ cup lemon juice

3,5oz – 5oz powdered sugar

 

PROCEDURE:

  • Put lemon juice over fruits and add sugar.
  • Mix everything until sugar melts.
  • Put the mixture in little bowels and place them in the freezer.
  • Every 10 to 15min take the bowels out of the freezer, stir to let it freeze evenly.
  • When they start freezing put the wooden sticks inside.
  • Let it freeze completely.

 

SERVING:

Put the ice cream into fridge around half an hour before eating it. You can add some chocolate sauce on the top of the ice cream when you take them out of the bowels.

Homemade ice cream recipe: Raspberry ice cream with yoghurt


 

INGREDIENTS:

18oz raspberries

¼ cup lemon juice

3,5oz powdered sugar

7oz yoghurt

 

PROCEDURE:

  • Put lemon juice over fruits and add sugar.
  • Mix everything until sugar melts.
  • Add yoghurt. You can also put some cheese instead of yoghurt, such as mascarpone.
  • Put the mixture to rest in the fridge for two hours.
  • After two hours take it out of the fridge and stir.
  • Repeat the stirring procedure twice more and put it in the freezer.

 

SERVING:

Make scoops and serve with fresh fruits or raspberry sauce. Add whipped cream.

Homemade ice cream recipe: Creamy milk ice cream


 

INGREDIENTS:

7 fl oz whipped cream

7 fl oz milk

3 egg yolks

6oz powdered sugar

1 vanilla sugar

 

PROCEDURE:

  • Put the milk to boil and cool a little bit.
  • Mix eggs with vanilla sugar.
  • Add a littler milk into eggs to let them adjust to temperature of milk. Add the remaining milk.
  • Cook the mixture on the steam, while stirring it all the time. Cook it until it’s thick.
  • When it cools put it in the fridge.
  • Add whipped cream into mixture, but stir it very carefully, use plain spoon.
  • Put it in the freezer.
  • Stir the mixture every 10 to 15min to let it freeze evenly.

 

SERVING:

Make scoops and serve with fruit sauce.

7oz dark chocolate

¾ cup water

1 tablespoon sugar

  • Place the chocolate, sugar and water in a saucepan and put on a very low heat to melt.
  • Stir occasionally until the mixture has melted.
  • Remove from heat and stir in butter and cream.

 

SERVING:

Serve hot over ice cream. You can also use this sauce with pancakes, waffles or fruits for chocolate fondue.

Raspberry sauce recipe


 

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups fresh raspberries

¼ cup sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

¼ cup water

 

PROCEDURE:

  • Put the raspberries, lemon juice and sugar in a saucepan and put to boil.
  • Cook for about 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add water as needed to thin the sauce.
  • Drain the sauce through fine sieve to eliminate the seeds.

 

SERVING:

Serve hot or cold over ice cream. This sauce also goes well with vanilla pudding and pancakes.
