Hot Trader Joe's Items on eBay

Updated on March 27, 2011

We do a lot of our grocery shopping at our local Trader Joe's store. I love the items and the prices.

A few weekends ago, I heard one of the Trader Joe's crew members tell a customer that she could make some extra holiday money by selling Trader Joe's reusable tote bags on eBay. He was pointing at the red bags that cost 99¢ - he claimed they were selling for $7 or $8 a pop.

"Really?" I asked. Yes, I invited myself to join in on the conversation, and I'm glad I did.

He went on to tell us that, in December, the $2-3 box of Candy Cane Joe-Joe's Cookies sellfor $8 to $10, plus shipping. He offered two explanations for the Trader Joe's popularity on eBay:

1. Trader Joe's aren't yet everywhere.

2. Not all of these items are available at all Trader Joe's.

So, I got online to check it out for myself. He was right—Trader Joe's items, the very ones I take for granted in my everyday life, are selling like crazy on eBay.

Of course, the top Trader Joe's items change all the time, based on seasonal demand.

The eBay column on the right shows some of the top Trader Joe's items currently available.

I've seen everything from the delicious strawberry granola bars to boxes of green tea.

Would You Buy Trader Joe's Items on eBay?

The City bag at Trader Joe's looks cute. It is a reusable grocery bag that is also trendy. The new "it" bag this year seems to be the fun, printed, reusable bags with long straps.

Ebay is a source of many wondrous things... and the people who buy them. I had no idea this was going on, but I do remember a few years back when Jones made "Turkey and gravy" flavored soda... and it was only available in the greater Seattle area. People were getting $50-75 a bottle for it, on eBay.

      I love TJs!

We don't have a Trader Joe nearby, maybe some of the buyers from Ebay are here.

      Stacey, GREAT Hub!!

Who knew?? I am just amazed!! You go girl!! You always pick up on the most interesting things!! I so appreciate you sharing all your delightful finds!!

I too am in love, love, love with our TJ's!! Fortunate for me, we have three within short driving distance!! And I can attest that all my favorite products are NOT at each of them!!

I lived in Tennessee for a few years and was just lost without TJ's!! No one could understand my lament!! Until they visited me back here in California!!

I guess this means TJ's has no mail order?? (I had never really thought about it!!?) I have friends around the country (no See's Candies) that I used to send See's to until See's started shipping!! (And selling See's gift certificates through Costco/Sam's Club, etc.)

GREAT Hub Stacey!! Blessings, Earth Angel!!

      Had no idea!

I have to say I'm not surprised - once you become a TJ devotee, it's hard to go without it. And the prices are so low, it's worth paying a premium and waiting for shipping - it's often cheaper than getting a substitute nearby.

A friend of mine living in London gives us a "TJ wish list" before we visit her. :)
