How to Make Easy Homemade Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
Homemade Ice Cream Ingredients
Nothing says Summer time like homemade ice cream ! What I like about this recipe is it's quick and easy, and anybody can do it. It's a great idea to do with the kids.
If you have never had the opportunity to try homemade ice cream, than you must make this recipe. You'll never go back to the generic store bought ice cream !
2 cups heavy whipping cream
4 cups of milk
2 egg yolks
3 teaspoons vanilla bean paste
1 1/2 cups of sugar
4 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon of salt
How to Make Homemade Ice Cream
Mix together the dry ingredients in a large (heavy duty) pan. Slowly add the milk and cream to the pan while using a whisk to continually stir it. You want to cook this for 10 minutes, continually stirring. As soon as it starts to thicken, take it off of the heat.
In a small sized bowl, whisk the yolks and than slowly add 1 cup of the cream mixture to the yolks, stirring continually. Now add it (yolk mixture) to the rest of the mixture in the pan, continuing to whisk. Now just add your vanilla bean paste, stir well. Let it cool off in the pan for an hour, stirring every so often.
Put Saran Wrap right on top of the mixture and put it in the refrigerator for 10 - 24 hours. Pour your mixture into a freezer safe container, yeilds 3 quarts.
* You can use use vanilla bean extract in you can't find the vanilla bean paste.
* You can also cut this recipe in half to make 1 1/2 quarts.
