Updated on November 12, 2011

Making Mashed Potatoes

There are many dishes that symbolize the holiday season. Besides your main entree, there are several side dishes made, one of the most popular is mashed potatoes. They are not hard to make, but some of the most common problems people have with making them is being to dry, not very flavorful, or having excessive lumps. So here is how to make perfect mashed potatoes every time !

What you need...

* 5 lbs potatoes

* 2 sticks (real) butter

* 1 cup whipping cream

* 1/8 cup salt

Peel and boil your potatoes for about 15 minutes after it comes to a rolling boil. You'll know they're done when you poke with a fork and they are soft. Drain the potatoes. After all the water is drained put into either a Kitchen Aid or a bowl to use a hand mixer. Add your two sticks of butter, whipping cream, and salt. Start mixing on low until they start to mash and then put the speed on medium. Continue mixing for another 3-5 minutes until they are the consistency you like them.
