Finger Millet Porridge

Finger Millet is rich in Iron and calcium. Here we'll use ground finger millet to make porridge as it makes it easy for the baby to eat. Its a highly nutrious food for the baby and can be given as one meal. We'll be using whole milk in this food, hence it's great to introduce when baby is around 8/9 months old or over a year in case you want to resist giving whole milk before one year.

Cook Time

Prep time: 5 min
Cook time: 10 min
Ready in: 15 min
Yields: 1 bowl

  • 2 tablespoons Finger millet powder (ground finger millet), Ragi
  • 1 cup plus Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Clarified butter, Ghee
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar

Let's make it

  1. Place wok/pan on medium flame
  2. Add clarified butter
  3. The moment clarified butter melts, add finger millet powder and roast it for 4-5 min, stirring continuously to avoid lumps
  4. Now slowly add the warm milk and keep stirring so that no lumps form. Add milk in portion till you achieve a creamy/saucy consistency right for your baby
  5. Add sugar and stir well. Take off the flame and transfer to serving dish
