Miguel’s Cantina
If you’re looking for a restaurant that offers authentic Mexican food, easy to spot, with a great open parking space in Rochester, MI, then you’ve come to the right place!
How this restaurant was chosen:
A funny story while Bartending at a Graduate party during the Summer of 2019, I met a guest named Luigi that sparked a conversation with me towards the end of the shift, and he says to me, “you have got to check out Miguel’s Cantina.” Come to find out, I’ve recently found that a couple colleagues of mine happen to dine there regularly. Oddly enough, I was re-connecting with my friend Nicholas around the same time, whom I haven’t seen in 4 years. I enjoy hearing Nicholas’s advice/insight about natural treatments & food choices for my mom. It turns out, Nicholas was willing to meet for lunch at Miguel’s Cantina, so we went there on Friday afternoon to see what it was all about.
The walk-in experience:
Upon entering the restaurant, are wooden floors and wooden walls mostly, but great designs! I haven’t been able to capture much, but I’ve captured a sign that seemed remarkable to me. The waitress will greet you, to see how many people are with you. Funny enough, we chose the bar, since I needed to charge my phone (Great information to share, because phone batteries love to go low). I also observed another dining area that was behind a double glass-door, before going stage left.
Drinks
I was glad to get a glass of Club Soda with ice, and Nicholas being the draft beer enthusiast, ended up getting the “Angry Orchard.“
Appetizer
The Chips and Salsa are pretty enjoyable. What makes their Salsa unique, is that it’s more of a Pico de Gallo kind of Salsa.
Entrees:
The Tacos Mexicanos (Veggie) are served with 3 tacos (choice of corn or flour), lettuce, tomato and cheese. It is served with rice and received beans. The Tacos also come with Salsa Verde (Green Salsa), and Lime slices. The Veggie Tacos taste the best, when topped off with lime squeeze and salsa. The entree compliments greatly with its side serving of rice and beans. ($12)
The Chicken Fajita is served freshly grilled in a steamy platter, cooked with green peppers, bell pepper, and onions. It is served with tortillas, beans, rice, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de Gallo. The Chicken Fajita has a great seasoned taste to it, and it surely explains the reason it’s their Number 1 choice. ($14)

Current Customer’s Endorsement
Special thanks to colleague Ryan Guzall for contributing his feedback:
“As a former resident of deep south Texas, and frequent patron, I can say that Miguel's is as close to authentic Mexican cuisine as Rochester has to offer. From salsa made table-side, to excellent horchata, the quality of Miguel's food is only equaled by its staff's hospitality. Rosa is always a pleasure, the food is always great, and, despite the high volume of business, there is somehow always an open table; Miguel's is consistently excellent, which is the reason my family and I visit at least once a week. The next time you're in the mood for Mexican food in the Rochester area, go to Miguel's for the best!”
In Conclusion
If you happen to be in the Rochester area, and are looking to try something new, Miguel’s Cantina is a great place for friends to meet. The Chips and Salsa dips always make the visit a worthwhile memorable experience.
