A Quick & Easy Chocolate & Nut Topped Oatmeal Cookie Recipe

Updated on November 7, 2020

Yummy Oatmeal Bars with Chocolate & Nut Topping

Holiday Cookies, Special Occasions, Family

These cookies are actually a family recipe that we would make for Christmas, amongst other delectable!

These cookies look great for cookie swaps, holiday gifts, or get togethers. Be sure to make an extra batch for your family to enjoy. They will pack well for lunch or picnics too.

Be sure to use a new bag of flour, as the cookies will rise much better.

Recipe

This is the recipe:

1 cup butter (or margarine), 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar, 2 egg yolks, 1 cup sifted flour, 1 cup rolled oats, (6) 1 ounze milk chocolate candy bars, 2 Tablespoons butter (or margarine), 1/2 cup chopped walnuts.

Cookie Sheet

Prepare Cookie Pan for Cookies

For this recipe, I bought a new cookie pan. If I were to use an older, already seasoned cookie sheet, I would have first prepared the pan by rubbing with margarine and coating with flour so the cookies wouldn't stick. If you use this technique, be sure to remove the excess flour.

Beginning the Recipe

Mixing Butter & Sugars

After you have prepared the pan (if necessary), cream butter (or margarine) with brown sugar and white sugar.

Blend Mixture

Add Eggs

After you have thoroughly creamed the butter and sugars, blend in egg yolks.

Add More Dry Ingredients

Sift Flour

Next, add sifted flour.

Ready to Bake

Milk Chocolate Candy Bars

Baked Cookies

Add Oats, Then Bake

Add rolled oats. Mix well.

Spread cookie dough onto a cookie pan (13"X9"). Cook for 20 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Let cool for 10 minutes.

Melt chocolate bars with butter (or margarine). Use a double boiler or microwave. Spread over cooled cookie layer. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts, press into warm chocolate.

Even though you might be hungry, don't cheat. Be sure to use all 6 candy bars as the consistency needs to be right.

Cut into 1 1/2" squares. Yields approximately 36 cookies. Enjoy!

I did not receive any products, services or compensation to make these cookies.
