Review of Independence Brewing Company's Bootlegger Brown Ale
Bootlegger Brown Ale
Independence Brewing Company's Bootlegger Brown Ale is full of toasted bread like character with a touch a caramel and maple sweetness. Aromas of toasted malts, caramel and oak are the primary scents that flood the senses. This is a great brew for the coming fall season as the cooler temperatures call for a darker touch and bolder flavors with a hint of sweetness.

Independence Brewing Company: Bootlegger Brown Ale
Style: Brown Ale
Appearance: Ruby Brown
Aroma: First whiff presents toasted malts, caramel, and oak with notes of brown sugar, steamed rice, and roasted nuts all mingled together in an overall balanced appeal. Hints of toffee and maple also show up at the end.
Flavor: The initial impression shows rich caramel, french toast, maple and roasted flavors with a touch of licorice and banana nut bread also found. A tad smoky taste is also apparent and overall flavor is well balanced between bold and sweet flavors and allows for a smooth sip and enjoyability.
Mouthfeel/Body: Full body with a crisp, dry finish. It simmers on the palates with a slight creamy feel and rich, full overall flavor.
Food Pairings: A deep brown delight requires a bold, full flavored meal with a touch of sweetness for a well rounded compliment. A great option for pairing would be a grilled steak with a few dashes of maple seasoning while cook in butter giving a rich, sweet and bold flavor with a slight creamy texture which all pairs well with the attributes of the Bootlegger brown ale. Side options would be grilled asparagus and sweet potatoes forming an overall complimentary meal. To end things on the right foot a dessert of the same character would be perfect. A nice banana cream pie with a caramel topping would bring a creamy, richness and caramel sweet ending while really enhancing the flavors of the beer, food duo.
Go ahead step into the darker zone this fall and grab some Bootlegger brown ale at a beer store near you. This brew is sure to bring a warm sensation throughout, while providing a touch of sweet to your sour side and ultimately mellow you out as you watch the fall leaves blow about. Enjoy and cheers!
