How to prepare Rice Kheer

Rice Kheer is a classic dessert which can be made even with leftover rice. Given are the ingredients and method of preparation of Rice Kheer.

Ingredients of Rice Kheer

  • 1 cup Basmati Rice washed and soaked in water for 30 minutes

  • 1 liter Milk

  • 1 cup Sugar

  • 1 Cup Cashew nuts

  • ½ Cup Raisins

  • thinly sliced Almonds for garnish

  • 1 pinch of Saffron dissolved in milk

  • 1 tsp Cardamom Powder

  • Ghee

How to make Rice Kheer

Heat Milk in a Pan and bring to boil. In the mean while, melt ghee in a Kadai and slightly fry the cashew nuts and raisins and keep aside. Now add the rice to the ghee and fry it for 3-5 minutes. Once the milk is boiled reduce the flame and add the rice in the milk and cook it. If the rice needs more water for cooking add some more water. Now add sugar and cashew nuts and raisins into the rice and mix well stirring continuously. Add rest of the ingredients also and simmer for a few more minutes. Remove from the stove and serve the Rice Kheer warm or chilled.

    Yes, I have this when I go to Indian restaurants but they call it rice pudding..for Americans to relate to it. Now I can make it at home. Thank you.
