Simple Fish Chowder Recipe

Updated on December 18, 2016

Introduction

I love chowders especially fish and seafood chowders. On a recent trip to Newport, RI, I found this recipe at a local seafood joint. Let me know how you like it.

- March 2016

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients. I made some small modification from the original recipe below.

  • can of whole tomato (drain and cut tomato into cubes)
  • half cup of diced onion
  • 4 slices of bacon cut to 1/2 inch strips
  • 2 stalks of carrots (cut)
  • 3 stalks of celery (cut)
  • 1 potato diced to cubes
  • 1 pound of frozen Alaskan Cod
  • 1 Tbs. olive oil
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup of cooking wine
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp parsley flakes
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1/2 tsp salt

How to Make It?

In a pan, saute onion and bacon until onion appears translucent. Place in a large pot and add water, olive oil, wine, and all the rest of ingredients and bring to boil. Turn heat to low and cook for approx. 45 minutes. Defrost cod fish and cut into 1/2 inch cubes. Add the fish to pot and cook another 15 minutes. Makes about 6 servings. Serve while hot.

Original Recipe Cape George Fish Chowder

Summary

Soups are the easiest of recipes. It just take a little time to prepare. There is nothing better than a homemade soup from scratch. Hope you like this simple recipe. Compliments of a local seafood joint in Newport RI. Bon appetit!

Man I'm on a diet, why are you doing this to me! That looks soooo good, I'm going to give this to my wife. She'll tell me just how much I'm aloud to eat.

You had me at bacon. This look wonderful! I will see if I can't get some nice cod this week. When I do make it I'll come back and let you know how mine turned out! Nice hub!

Whoops, senior moment, aloud should be allowed, but of course if you've heard me eat aloud might stand.
