Simple Mussels Appetizer Recipe

Updated on January 4, 2017

There is nothing like a good appetizer dish at the start of a fine meal. One such dish is mussels in marinara sauce. Here is a simple recipe and very economical.

- March 2016

How To Make It?

  • 2 pounds fresh mussels from your grocery store. (approx. $5)
  • lots of fresh garlic - chopped
  • olive oil
  • cooking wine
  • marinara sauce with basil from a jar
  • salt

Place mussels in a large pot of cold water for 30 minutes. Drain and refill a few times.

In a large pan, put a table spoons of olive oil and high heat. Add garlic and some salt. When sizzling, add the drained mussels and add 3 Tbsp of cooking wine. Cover and heat for a few minutes.

Remove pan from heat and drain the liquids from the pan. Replace back on the stove and add a full jar of marinara sauce. Cover and simmer over low heat for a few minutes. That's it. Serve while hot.

This dish can be accompanied by some fresh crusty bread. The sauce can be used for dipping. Bon appetit.
