In my family, it was always a tradition to make scratch made biscuits and once they were complete, spread on some butter and applesauce and then enjoy! This is something that even as an adult I still enjoy! Unfortunately, I am not a huge fan of purchasing applesauce from the store, and even if I can it, there is usually too much which will go bad. So I have learned that I can still make a great batch to enjoy a few days and never have to worry about throwing away a bunch because it went bad. This recipe can be altered to suit tastes and preferences with ease. Personally I prefer mixing different types of apples, and this recipe reflects this choice; but for most, they prefer to use a tart apple and leave the others out. If that is the case for your personally, please do so!
I am also really bad for having some apples which perhaps are going to begin going bad shortly and I just want to hurry up and use them, so this recipe also helps save waste! If you prefer a less chunky recipe, feel free to cut the apple chunks smaller to suit yoru desired consistency. Just play around increasing and decreasing the additives and the size of the apple chunks, as well as the different apples you use. Each one will provide a different flavor in the recipe. I normally do try to mix in a few tart apples just to make sure it isn't extremely sweet, but this is up to you!
- 6 Red Delicious Apples, cut into chunks
- 6 Granny Smith Apples, cut into chunks
- 1 1/2 tsp. Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp. Cinnamon
- 1/4 c. Brown Sugar
- 1/8 c. Raw Sugar
- 1 c. Apple Juice/Apple Cider
- In slow cooker, combine all ingredients and cover.
- Cook on low heat 4-6 hours and then stir to make sure to mix the ingredients together well!
