Sour Cream Herb Dip Recipe

Ariel: So Noel, did you bring the cream?

Noel: I sure did cousin...( Handing her a pail )

Ariel: What’s this?

Noel: Sour cream..

Ariel: It smells rancid

Noel: Yeah you know how long I had to leave it outside so the milk can go sour. Three days.

Ariel: There is a difference between sour and rotten! This is rotten!

Noel: I’m your cousin, why don’t you ever show me some love?

Ariel: You don’t even know what love is Noel.

Noel: I bet you don’t either..

Ariel: What? Of course I do. Love is an intense feeling you have for a person. That feeling that makes you warm up inside.. Fills you with that binding urge you get from personal ties. It’s a strong feeling.

Noel: I have those feelings for you Ariel, but I’m pretty sure it’s hate.

Ariel: Sour Cream Herb Dip is today’s recipe!

Noel: Oh yeah, I remember this recipe, smells like an old woman’s shoe with her feet still in it.

Ariel: Here’s what you’ll need for today’s recipe.

1 C. Dairy sour cream.- 1/4 tsp. Salt- 1/4 C. Chopped parsley-. 1/4 C. Chopped chives. -1 T. Chopped fresh dill. Now if you can’t get the fresh herbs you can use

1/4 tsp. Parsley flakes.- 1/4 tsp. Dried dillweed.- 1tsp. Chives. Keeping in mind that fresh herbs is always better.

Now, mix all the ingredients together well. Then Cut vegetables...

Noel: I don’t see the vegetables I need in the ingredients list.

Ariel: We are putting together a dip.

Noel: And?

Ariel: You need something to dip.. So just sit and listen!

Noel: I’m just saying... I would have been very pissed if I went to the store and bought the ingredients you have on the list and then tell me to cut some vegetables up that I didn’t buy because they were not on the list.

Ariel: But Noel, we’re making a dip. Common sense says you can’t eat a dip by itself.

Noel: I would still be pissed Ariel...

Ariel: Okay! Cut the vegetables that I should have put on the list, such as carrots, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. to the appropriate dipping size.

Noel: Now was that too difficult?

Ariel: You know Noel, the feelings I have for you is getting stronger than ever.

Noel: Love?

Ariel: Hate!

This is way better than just reading a recipe. You've killed two birds with one stone here. We get to stay engaged while learning how to make fresh dip. What cute kids, by the way. Are they yours? They're precious.

Frank - I just love you Noel and Ariel stories. :) They are terrific. Sends me back to the years, many years ago, when my boys were little and underfoot in the kitchen. Now I have three grandchildren under eight and they like to play "cook and serve dinner."

So I have a big basket full of plastic dishes, mixing bowls, spoons, and cups. Recently, I have started saving every empty plastic jar and container and washing it out and adding it to their cook dinner basket. Now they have pint milk container, ketchup and mustard bottles, juice bottle, instant coffee and peanut butter jars, and many more. They are delighted with each addition and clearly I am the "best" grandmother. :)
