Southern Candied Yams Recipe

Cook Time

Yields: serves10 to 12

Ingredients

  • 6 large Yams/sweet potatoes, cubed
  • 1/2 stick Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup Light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup Confectioners sugar
  • 3 cups Hot water
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg
  1. Wash & peel sweet potatoes/yams; Cut potatoes into medium/large chunks. Set aside
  2. You will need a 13 x 9 baking dish. Pour and mix all of the sugars into the dish.
  3. Add cinnamon & nutmeg into mixed sugars. Pour melted butter and gently mix with sugar mixture.
  4. Pour hot water into 13 x 9 baking dish and allow water to dissolve the sugars. Gently stir to blend together well :)
  5. Lightly lay the sweet potatoes/yams into baking dish. Spoon some of the juices from the pan evenly on potatoes. Cover with aluminum foil 7 bake at 350 degrees for 1 hr. Enjoy:)

Optional Toppings:

  • Chopped pecan
  • Miniature marshmallows
  • Flaked coconut

These are delicious to add on top ,if your looking for more of a dessert .Sprinkle toppings to suit your taste. I prefer an abundance of miniature marshmallows! Happy eating :)
