Spending Some Time on Tomato Cultivation in Small Scale
Most of us have a busy working schedule and once we are out of our office in the evening, we tend to rush to our house or any other hangout zones. Actually we do not get enough time to enjoy our life apart from work, office, meetings, etc. When we go home, we might be in a hurry to buy the groceries and vegetables to our home and rarely do we check about the quality of the vegetables and other food items that we purchase for home. In most of the countries majority of the vegetables and food items tend to be adulterated and we need to be very much careful while buying them.
The quality of the vegetables that I purchase from any shop has really disappointed me and felt wondering if I could plant and cultivate all the necessary vegetations at home, but since I do not have enough space back home for a huge cultivation, I really left that plan. But later I thought of some other workaround and this time I decided to plant one or two vegetables and try how it works. So I decided to tune my focus into one or two vegetables that can be of great use in my daily life.
Finally I decided to come up with the plan of cultivating tomatoes on my own and I had some small space behind my backyard where I could plant the tomato seeds and allow them to grow till it reaps. Initially I went to a small agricultural store near my house, from where I brought the seeds of tomato, dreaming of a great tomato cultivation campaign ahead. The moment I reached home, I went to my backyard, dig the sand and placed the seeds so that they could come up and grow comfortably.
Every day I went near the place where I planted the seed in the hope of seeing the new plant coming out from the sand. Finally after few day I had the privilege to see the plant coming out from the seed and from that time onwards I was really extra caring and alert towards the new tomato plant. Gradually the plant began growing and after few days, it was the time for it to produce the much awaited tomato. One day I was really thrilled to see a number of flowers blossomed on the tomato plant and I was pretty sure that these flowers are going to develop into top quality tomatoes.
After various challenges and roadblocks, I was finally able to pluck the tomatoes and make a dish out of it. Even though the number of tomato was very less, the satisfaction that I experienced was beyond explanation. I really felt proud of myself in this small achievement and the various challenges that I overcame during these period made it more special. I almost got 3-4 kg of tomato and this was something special as I always hoped to produce tomatoes of my own rather than buying the tomatoes from shops which was always vulnerable to the presence of various dangerous pesticides.
From the day one itself, I had to confront so many challenges and managed to overcome with the help of my friends and relatives. Once the plant came out of the seed and became grown up, I thought every issues were over and the plant will start producing the fruit. But then can the major challenge in the form of fungus and the plant suddenly started fading our, some type of mites started eating out the leaves and overall the plant started looking in bad shape and began to burn out. I was really disappointed at this and decided to consult with my friends who had some kind of experience in vegetable plantations.
How I Tackled the Challenge
They gave me two option by which we can eliminate the fungus and other issues associated with the plant. The first method was to spray insecticides on the plant so that worms and other bacteria does not stay on the leaves and stems of the plant. I was not at all interested in this method as I was really looking for pesticide free vegetation. The other method was quite safe as it involved the spraying of water which was boiled with tobacco leaves. Once the boiled water becomes cold, you can really apply it on the plant and the procedure really helps you in eliminating the worms and bacteria present on the plant and make the plant healthier. This step really worked for me and I was very much delighted over the fact that I could at last get some tomatoes which was free of pesticides.
Even though the vegetation scale was small, I was really excited over the fact that I could manage to cultivate tomatoes on my own and this really proved to be a encouraging factor for further vegetable cultivations. More over getting involved in vegetations and gardening is one of the best ways to spend your weekends and free time as it really provides a great sense of satisfaction you rarely get to see anywhere. I you manage your vegetable gardening properly, you can easily make the necessary vegetables for your household needs without going to the market to buy the vegetables which are notorious for pesticides and other issues.
