Need a wake-up call for your palate? Spicy Sunflower Seeds are it! These yummy little gems are easy to make and even easier to consume. Find yourself a good source for organically grown sunflower seeds and buy in bulk. You'll want to make several batches of these because they'll disappear very quickly!
Ingredients
- 1 cup sunflower seeds, raw
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp cayenne/ground red pepper (If you love spicy food, add even more cayenne!)
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- salt & pepper
- Cooking oil spray, as needed
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Use a pizza pan or a sheet pan with 1" sides. Spray pan with cooking oil spray.
- Add raw sunflower seeds, spray with cooking oil spray.
- Salt & pepper seeds to your taste.
- Blend the rest of the dry ingredients together and sprinkle over the seeds. Toss until well mixed.
- Push the seeds together towards the middle of the pan into a flattened, 1/4"-1/2" pile.
- Place pan in oven for 2-3 minutes.
- Remove pan, mix well. Repeat step 6.
- Place pan back in oven, toast seeds for 2-3 more minutes. Repeat steps 6 & 7.
- Place pan back in oven for an additional 1-2 minutes. They'll be ready to use at this point, but if you like them darker, by all means, toast them for a little longer. Just keep an eye on them, they do toast very quickly.
- Cool and enjoy!
