Star Wars Cake Decorations
Star Wars Cake Decorations
Star Wars is one of those franchises that has made a mark on our culture. Loved by the old and the young, the popularity of this epic world never seems to die down-- entire generations of people have love for it. If you're having a party for a Star Wars fan, or are just looking for something fun to do with a cake, then a Star Wars theme may be just what you're looking for!
Here are some Star Wars cake decorations to consider if you have no idea where to start.
The Easy Route
The easiest way to decorate a Star Wars cake would be to simply get some decorative cake or cupcake toppers. All you need to do is choose an appropriate colored frosting-- perhaps blue and grey (Star Wars colors), or the base of your cake may be a deep, dark chocolate dotted with white stars to represent the night sky?
Star Wars cake toppers come in the shape of beloved characters, light sabers and such-- but you could embellish a cake with any space theme as well. Try looking for planets, stars or little space ships! All you have to do with decorative cake toppers is to sprinkle them on, or stick them into the top of the cake-- and you're done. This is perfect for anyone looking for fast and easy ways to make an impression, even if they don't have any cake decorating experience.

Cake Image Toppers
Another fairly easy route to take is to get cake image toppers. These are 'sheets' printed on edible material, in edible ink. All you have to do is put them over a frosted sheet cake. They can look very impressive!
Unlike cake topper figures, these are flat. You have to make sure you get the icing underneath very smooth, and it helps if you can edge them with a little flourish of decorative piped frosting. However, most people who look at this cake will marvel at you and wonder just how you did it!

2-Dimensional Hand Decorating
If you want to try your hand at some creative cake decorating, you can make some really cute 2-dimensional decorations on a flat cake.
One option is for a simple silhouette. Look for coloring pages featuring Star Wars characters, perhaps engaged in battle with light sabers drawn. Cut out the shapes and lay them on a dark chocolate cake, then sprinkle powdered sugar all over the cake with a sieve. Carefully pick up and remove the paper figures, and you'll have some awesome silhouettes.
Another option is to use make flat shapes. You might bake a rectangle and then use a knife to round the top to create an R2D2 shape. Freeze the cake and use a serrated edge knife so you'll get minimal crumbs. Use another rectangular cake to cut out his 'legs' and place them on each side. Then simply frost it white or cover it in fondant. Use more frosting or fondant, gum paste or modeling chocolate to make the details on the little bot.
You could do the same with some other characters-- make a big, C-3P0 head, or a yoda head, or a big, dark Darth Vader. Use your imagination!
