What are Hershey's Kisses?
Hershey's Kisses are bite-sized chocolates in the shape of a flat-bottomed teardrop. They are wrapped in aluminum foil and have a slip of paper in the wrapping.
History of the Hershey's Kiss
Hershey's Kisses were introduced in 1907 by the Hershey Company. They were named the Hershey's Kiss because of the machine that produced them. When the machine would place the product on the conveyour belt, the machine would make a kissing sound and seemed to kiss the belt.
During World War II, Hershey's Kisses production stopped due to a scaricity of aluminum foil for their wrappers. During 1942 to 1949, no kisses were made. But, after 1949, production started again.
Up until 1956, Hershey's Kisses were hand wrapped in their wrappers. But after 1956, Hershey's began using automated wrapping for their kisses. As such, they were able to start putting in a slip of paper in every kiss so consumers would identify an authentic Hershey's Kiss.
