Sweet Rice Pongal Preparation
Sweet Pongal or Sakkarai Pongal is a Tamil speciality and part of all major festivals in Tamilnadu. During the Harvest festival Pongal is prepared in the traditional earthen pots. This sweet dish is very popular with south indians.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Raw Rice
- 2 tsp Moong dal
- 1 Cup Milk
- 2 Cups Grated Jaggery
- Cashew nuts
- Raisins
- Ghee
- 1 tsp Elachi powdered
- 1 Pinch Dried ginger powder
- 1 Pinch Salt
Method of Preperation
Heat ghee in a pan and roast the cashews and raisins and keep aside. Wash the Rice and Moong Dal throughly and Pressure cook rice and moongdal and keep aside. Keep a thick bottomed pan on the Stove and add the Jaggery and one cup of water and stir until the jagagery melts completely in water. Once done remove from heat , stain it and add to the cooked rice along with milk and reheat it mixing throughly for another 5 minutes. Add Cashews and raisins, cardamom powder, dry ginger powder, salt, ghee and mix well and remove from heat. Serve hot or cold.
