The Partida Margarita Cocktail: Made with All-Natural Agave Nectar

Updated on January 9, 2010

The Partida Margarita

There is nothing better than a great margarita, especially after a long and particularly stressful day. While margaritas taste great and have a nice relaxing effect, I don't enjoy them as often as I would like out of concern for the high sugar content in these tasty beverages.

That's why I am so excited to find out about the delicious Partida Margarita, which is made with all-natural, 100% agave nectar instead of a sugary flavoring blend. Agave nectar is a low glycemic impact alternative to sugar. It comes from the heart of blue agave plants, and is much sweeter than sugar. It is a slightly viscous liquid - not watery, but not as thick as honey.

In a Partida Margarita, the agave nectar actually takes the place of the sweet flavoring agent and the secondary liquor. Of course, you can't make a margarita without tequila, the primary liquor. However, Partida margaritas don't require Triple Sec or Contrineau, which are often added to traditional margaritas.

Partida margaritas are a simple combination of Partida tequila, Partida Agave Nectar, freshly squeezed lime juice, and water. When blended with the other ingredients, the agave nectar dissolves thoroughly and quickly, resulting in a unique and delicious sweet cocktail with minimal blood sugar impact. The end result is a delicious cocktail with both less sugar and less alcohol than other types of margaritas. This is great news for me, because it means I can have even more margaritas than usual!

By the way, if you've never tried Partida tequila, you are in for a real treat! Partida tequila is a relatively new entry to the tequila market. The company was founded in 2001, and has been critically acclaimed by sources such as The Spirit Journal, The 2006 San Francisco Tasting Competition, and The Tequila Regulatory Council of Mexico's annual tasting event. Partida tequila is currently distributed in several US states and in Mexico an the United Kingdom. On a personal level, my husband is a premium tequila connoisseur, and was highly impressed with the flavor of Partida tequila.

Just like Partida agave nectar, the company's premium tequila is made with 100% pure blue agave nectar, grown on Enrique Partida's 5,000 acre blue agave estate in Amatitan, Mexico, a region known for producing the finest tequilas in the world. It is available in three varieties: Anejo, Reposado, and Blanco.

You can try the Partida Margarita for yourself by using the recipe available at Partida tequila is available from Sherry Lehman Wine and Spirits Merchants.
