The Wake Up Shake: Iced Coffee Protein Shake
Starbucks, eat your heart out
Have you ever tried a Starbucks coffee-based Frappuccino? If so, then you've probably had more than one. The frappuccino is my favourite Starbucks drink. The only downside to the frappuccino is that it's incredibly not healthy. That, and its extortionate price.
After experimenting with different iced coffee recipes to add to my lean muscle building diet, I have finally found the winner. And now I'm ready to share it with you. This is a drink that I actually get excited about in the morning. I don't mind waking up in extra early when I know I'll be making my favourite drink for breakfast. It actually helps me get out of bed - I don't even need an alarm anymore.
Prep Time
Ingredients
- 1 and 1/2 cups Ice Cubes
- 1 and 1/2 tablespoons Coffee Granules
- 1 small scoop Chocolate Protein Powder
- 1 egg white Egg White (optional)
- Milk
Instructions
- Open your Blend Active bottle or your blender and pour in the ice cubes. Add the milk, pouring enough to cover all of the ice cubes plus a bit more. Then add the egg white (if you're using one), followed by the coffee granules and chocolate protein powder.
- Fix on the Blend Active razor lid or your blender lid, and blend for 1 minute or until there are no large chunks of ice.
- Pour in to serving glass or fix your Blend Active drinking lid to your bottle. Enjoy!
When to serve
- Morning
This is a very quick and simple recipe for anyone who lives a busy, hectic lifestyle. If you struggle to indulge in a proper, hearty breakfast, this adding one of these to your morning routine will do more than just fill you up! The protein will help with muscle synthesis and the caffeine will help wake you up and keep you alert.
- Snack
If you like a midday energy boost, then, again, this is perfect; So long as there's a blender, and a freezer at work, or wherever you are, you'll have no problems quickly blending one of these, much to your colleagues' jealousy.
- Pre-workout and post-workout
It's also great as a pre- and post- workout shake. The protein and caffeine combination will keep you energised and will refill any tanks that you've emptied in the gym, or that you need to top up before starting a workout.
- Not before bed
I wouldn't suggest drinking one of these before bed. The caffeine isn't ideal for late night consumption unless you plan on doing an all-nighter in the library to get a last-minute essay done on time!

Which blender is best?
I would strongly suggest investing in a Breville Blend Active blender. They're ultra lightweight, very compact and easy to store when not in use. But, wait, of course it will be in use!
The Blend Active is perfect for people who want a quick healthy, energising drink on the go. This blender is great; no mess, no fuss. You simply fix on the blending lid (the one with the razors in) and screw it on to the blender (very easy and quick to do), and start blending. Once you've finished, you unscrew the bottle and blending lid, take off the blending lid, and replace it with the drinking lid. Then you simply give the blending lid a quick rinse. other that this small lid, there is no wasting up to do until you've finished your drink!
