Some people with certain health conditions feel better eating certain foods than others. There is no magic formula to obtain optimal health for everyone but eating the top healthiest foods is your greatest tool and best medicine for prevention against disease.

Famous Food Quotes

Don't dig your grave with your knife and fork ~ English Proverb

The most dangerous food to eat is a wedding cake ~ Proverb

A healthy family is my top concern and making healthy food choices is important to me. Making smart choices whether we eat at home or out doesn't mean sacrificing our favorite foods but we do keep an eye on portion sizes.

With so many food options and messages today it is hard to make good choices with confidence. Little by little as you develop some healthy eating habits it won't be as confusing as you had once imagined.

Choosing items from the top healthiest foods chart below helps make meal planning so much easier.

Each week before I do food shopping I put a few items on my grocery list of the top healthiest foods from the chart which I have hanging on my refrigerator. I am going to share that chart with you because it's been a good and easy resource to aid me when making good food choices for super health protection against my families specific ailments.

For example, when planning my food menu, for myself, often I choose bananas, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, pineapple, sweet potatoes and yogurt because those are the foods, according to the chart, that strengthen bones and is where I need the extra protection. For my son, I choose cantaloupe, fish and oranges to boost his immune system.

So what ails you?

Ripplemaker, I like how you are taking control of your eating habits while craving for food by checking out the healthy foods. That is one smart sis I have. Good luck to you!

agvulpes thank you. Foods that help against arthritis would be the same as the ones listed for protecting the immune system such as fish and flax, oranges, and yogurt. Here is an article on "Fighting arthritis with these foods" if you are interested in further reading; it is an article in accordance with the National Institute of Health. Hope this helps and thank you for your visit.

Thank you countrywomen - I used to work in a produce department in High School and I would always look for new fruits I hadn't tried so I could taste them. Hubber Chuck just wrote a hub on papaya for breakfast. That will perhaps be the next new fruit I try. What a blessing it is that something as healthy as fruit can satisfy our sweet tooth. Thanks for the thumbs up. :D

Justmesuzanne, you are welcome. Thanks for stopping by.

Violetsun, when you compare a banana to an apple, it has 4 times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, 3 times the phosphorus, 5 times the vitamin A and iron and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the top healthiest foods around. So a banana a day will also keep the doctor away. Thats for stopping by. Enjoy your day!

You're welcome Eddie. Keep on eating healthy and exercising and I'll keep on hoping you get stronger each day. It's very nice to see you!

      Dottie,

Thanks for a great list of helpful healthy foods.

There is no question in my mind that God designed our bodies to be maintained through healthy eating and exercise.  Being married to my sweet Barbie I have experienced the difference too.   I’ve noticed many times that I’m graving something and then be informed (by Barbie) that it is what my body needs at that point in time.

      Great hub ~ eddie

This is a very handy list of good-for-you-food . Lik G-ma, I also eat apples, and a lot of the foods you mentioned, especially bananas. I notice I have a craving for almonds and cheese since I entered the change of life, but I eat low fat, skim milk cheese every once in a while, hope its not unhealthy.
