PA Dutch Cinnamon Bread Recipes

The Pennsylvania Dutch are known to be wonderful bakers. If you ever visit Lancaster PA be sure to purchase some home made baked goods.

This cinnamon bread is very old family recipe. It is easy to make and sure to be a hit with everyone.

Cook time: 50 min
Ready in: 1 hour
Yields: 2 Loafs
  • 1 cup Butter, softened
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 2 tbs Vinegar
  • 4 cups Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking soda
  • 2/3 cup sugar & 2 tsp cinnamon Mixed together in bowl, Set aside, this is cinnamon sugar mix
  1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. Cream butter, 2 cups sugar, and eggs
  3. Add milk, vinegar, flour, and baking soda
  4. Put 1/4 of the batter in one greased loaf pan
  5. Put 1/4 of the batter in a second greased loaf pan
  6. Sprinkle 1/4 of cinnamon sugar mix over first loaf pan
  7. Sprinkle 1/4 of cinnamon sugar mix over second loaf pan
  8. Put 1/4 of batter in first loaf pan then remaining batter in second loaf pan
  9. Sprinkle 1/4 cinnamon sugar mix over first loaf pan and remaining cinnamon sugar mix over second loaf pan
  10. Bake 45-50 minutes or until toothpick tests come back clean.
  11. Cool in loaf pans for 20 minutes before removing.

      The batter is enough to fill 2 standard 5" x 10" loaf pans.

      I love anything with cinnamon and this looks simple enough that I could actually make it! I'm headed to a big picnic in a few weeks, and I might bake some to take along. I especially love that this uses all very basic ingredients that I'm likely to have on hand or use if I purchase. I'll be sure to report back again if I try it :)
