What do you like more - a Pizza or Burgers?

Updated on June 25, 2017

Pizza or burgers?

Well, we foodies have our preferences! I have to say that in answering this question, the first thing that comes to mind is that it depends on where the pizza or burger are from. It also depends what toppings are used. When I prepare these items homemade, I think that I make a better burger than a pizza. I've only tried making pizza a couple of times. I bought the dough in a 99 cents ball from Trader Joes and I used various toppings including meatballs and cheese.

For this article, I'll focus on pizza and burgers from restaurants/ fast food chains.

My #1 choice is a burger from Five Guys burgers and fries. Five Guys has various locations in the United States. I was first introduced to the chain while living in Washington, DC a few years ago. This fare is a bit greasy but absolutely delicious nevertheless.

#2 would be the made to order burgers you can get from restaurants such as Ruby Tuesday's of TGI Friday's. I like a medium- well done burger loaded with lettuce, tomato, onions and my cheese of choice on a burger is blue cheese. You shouldn't have to specially request the blue cheese. It is often an option on these menus.

My #3 choice would be pizza that is specifically New York style. Unfortunately many venues outside of New York claim to have the New York style pizza but when you taste it, it does not measure up. Consider yourself lucky if it does. It think the best New York style pizza is actually in New York. Staten Island and Brooklyn pizzerias tend to have great pizza. One of my favorites is "white pizza" which has no tomato sauce and has ricotta cheese as a topping. At some pizzerias, the sky is the limit with the type of toppings you can choose. I have even had calamari on New York style pizza. It is delicious.

After my top three choices mentioned above, I would have to say my next choice (#4) would be Pizza Hut pizza, specifically the deep dish pan style crust in supreme with no mushrooms or meat lovers. #5 would be a Burger King whopper with cheese, #6 would be a Big Mac from McDonalds and #7 would be Papa John's pizza (spinach, tomato, or the meats).

Finally, have you ever heard of a pizza burger? It's like the best of both worlds;-) I would be remiss not to mention it. I've enjoyed this type of burger a couple of times in various restaurants. It is typically a burger topped with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce and even pepperoni.

Given a choice, I prefer a slice of pizza over a burger. If I am going to have a burger, I would rather grill one myself. I will have to try a Five Guys Burger. Is there one in Dallas?
