Would You Pay $7 for Starbucks Coffee?
Unless you are well off to the point where $7 for a cup off coffee means pocket change, or a coffee nutcase, most coffee drinkers will not pay $7 for a Starbucks special coffee.
It is the rare Costa Rica Finca Palmilera beans, grown in the remote area mountains. Starbucks only as 3,800 pounds of it. You can buy eight ounces of it for $40. The beans were imported from Ethiopia in the 1950's and the yield per tree is small. Now, the taste of the coffee is a bit controversial because it is fruity, like peach and pineapple. This coffee is grown in the Tarrazu region near the San Lorenzo area.
Do you want your coffee to taste fruity? Tingly? It is a far cry from the espresso and cappuccino not to mention all of the Starbuck special coffees. But, the key test is always taste and that is what was done by Jimmy Kimmel, who poured two regular coffees, although, the taster was told to identify the $7 special coffee. The bottom line was that many thought they were drinking it or could identify it! Others, could not tell any difference.
I always knew taste is subjective to a degree.
