Alice in Wonderland Cupcakes
Alice in Wonderland Cupcakes are best created in blue and white. The easiest way to create an Alice Cupcake is to bake a blue cupcake and add a cupcake topper.
I looked for a recipe that didn't have a lot of artificial colors and used foods to color the cupcakes. To make blue cupcakes we modified a Hungry Girl Berry-Luscious Cupcake Recipe.
The blueberries make the cupcakes very dark. If you want a lighter version, use less blueberries and perhaps some strawberries.
Blueberry Cupcakes
9 1/8 ounces white cake mix, 2 cups (half an 18.25 oz package)
1 cup Berry Flavored Fizz Water (no extra sweeteners)
4 large egg whites or ½ cup egg substitute
¼ - ½ cup purred blueberries
Cooking spray
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Prepare a 12-cup muffin pan by spraying with cooking spray, or lining with cupcake wrappers.
1. In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups of cake mix with the soda and egg whites.
2. Once mixed, add the pureed fruit.
3. Mix these ingredients together until smooth at medium-speed using an electric mixer or vigorously whisk about 45 seconds.
4. Fill prepared muffin pan approximately 2/3 way full.
5. Bake until done, 15 to 20 minutes.
6. Remove from oven and allow cupcakes to cool completely in pan before removing (if possible).
Once cupcakes are cool, remove cupcakes from pan, frost and decorate.
Yields 1 cupcake per serving. 12 servings.

Mad Hatter Cupcakes
For the Mad Hatter Party that we had a couple of years ago (before the Burton version) we made cupcakes in two sizes and then let the kids create Mad Hatter Cupcakes by attaching a mini cupcake to the top of a larger cupcake with a decorative toothpick.
Then they got to frost and decorate their crazy Mad Hatter Cupcake with sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, edible sprinkle card shapes (hearts, spaces, clubs and diamonds) and almonds.
Here are two different frosting mixes that we used.
Marshmallow Frosting
½ cup Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Creme
½ cup Cool Whip Free, thawed
½ tsp Flavoring Extracts (almond, lemon, peppermint, vanilla) as desired
Food coloring as desired
Vanilla will turn the Frosting slightly brown, so you may want to add food coloring.
Mix ingredients together.
Makes 1 cup of Frosting.
*******************************
Pudding Frosting
1 3 oz. package sugar-free pudding (vanilla, white chocolate, lemon, chocolate)
1/2 amount of milk suggested.
1 cup+ Cool Whip Free, thawed
1. Mix sugar-free pudding mix with 1/2 amount of recommended milk.
2. Add 1 cup + thawed Cool Whip Free to the pudding mix and blend well.
Makes 2 cups+ of Frosting.
Burton Mad Hatter Cupcakes
For Burton Mad Hatter Cupcakes we'd use a large cupcake in a green cupcake wrapper on a green base.
Some peacock feather paper, edible ribbons and Bamboo picks with decorative end to finish decorating the hat as the hat pins.
The kids would get to decorate the cupcake them green sugar, chocolate chips and almonds.

Red Queen Cupcakes
Red Queen Cupcakes are primary red. They can be heart-shaped or red roses. An easy way to create a Red Queen Cupcake is to bake a pink cupcake and add a Red Queen cupcake topper.
To make pink cupcakes for the Red Queen, we modified a Hungry Girl Berry-Luscious Cupcake Recipe.
Strawberry Cupcakes
9 1/8 ounces white cake mix, 2 cups (half an 18.25 oz package)
1 cup Berry Flavored Fizz Water (no extra sweeteners)
4 large egg whites or ½ cup egg substitute
6 medium strawberries or ¼ - ½ cup of purred berries

Heart Cupcakes
For the Alice in Wonderland Premiere Party, we baked Strawberry and Blueberry cupcakes (from the recipes above) in heart-shaped molds.
After watching the movie, we took the kids to a nearby park where they had a chance to frost cupcakes with White Chocolate Pudding Frosting (recipe above) and decorate them with a variety of sprinkles and some healthier toppings (mini chocolate chips, cinnamon and sliced almonds).
The shape of the cupcakes helped to make them festive and letting the kids decorate their own, gave them an activity and something to eat.

White Queen Cupcakes
The Angel Food Recipe for the White Queen cupcakes is SchneeweiÃe Engels-Speise (glutenfrei)from seelensturm's website in Germany, which my husband says translates to Snow-white Angel Food (Gluten Free), which is perfect for the White Queen.
Note that the measurements are in metric and have been adjusted and included in parentheses.
Snow-white Angel Food Cupcake
Ingredients:
75 gms (2/3 cup) rice flour
3 tablespoons cornstarch
75 ml (1/3 cup) Cream
2 egg whites
1 / 4 teaspoon citric acid
25 gms (1/8 cup) caster sugar (superfine sugar)
25 gms (1/8 cup) instant coconut powder (or sugar)
1 / 4 teaspoon baking powder
Approx 20 ml (4 teaspoons) milk
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 ° F
Prepare a 6-cup muffin pan by spraying with cooking spray, or lining with cupcake wrappers.
1. Mix together rice flour, starch and baking powder into a bowl and mix.
2. Add cream, sugar and coconut powder to a mixing bowl and mix well.
3. In a separate bowl, add the citric acid to the egg whites and beat well.
4. Add the flour mixture to the cream mixture and stir until mixture is smooth.
5. Add milk a bit at a time to make the mixture dough like, not liquid like.
6. Carefully fold the egg whites into the flour-cream batter.
7. Divide the mixture evenly into 6 prepared baking cups.
8. Bake at 350 ° F (325 ° F for a convection bake)
9. Bake for 20-25 or until a rod can be removed cleanly.
About halfway through the baking time, 10 - 12 minutes, once the cupcakes have risen become more solid, cover to ensure that they remain a golden brown.
Cool on wire racks.
Yield 6 cupcakes. (Double recipe for 12 cupcakes)
The recipe was translated with Google Translator (and a bit from rusty German).

Cheshire Cat Cupcakes
Colors for the Cheshire Cat are dark shades of blue, turquoise, gray and purple for Burton's Chess. A quick and easy way to create a Cheshire Cat Cupcake is to bake a blue cupcake and add a cupcake topper.
The Disney Family site has a great tutorial on making a Cheshire Cat Cupcakes using skittles, sour apple gummy ring and gumdrops. For more ideas check the Rainbow Cheshire Cat Cupcakes and Giant Cheshire Cat Cupcake Cake from the Meringue Bake Shop.

Cheshire Cat Cupcake
This Cheshire Cat Cupcake idea comes from a Mad Hatter's Tea Party held back east. Making these Cheshire Cat Cupcakes is all in the candy and nuts decorations.
After the cupcakes have been baked and frosted, it is time to add the decorations. Using fondant, fruit leather, fruit roll ups or rolled out gumdrops or lifesaver gummies cut toothy smiles or Cheshire Cat grins for the mouth.
To make a white toothy grin for the Disney Family version of the Cheshire Cat cupcake, they used the white side of a sour apple gummy ring.
The ears are made from Almond slides, the mouth and eyes from something like dots, gummy candy or any other gummy candy. One might also try using M & M's or skittles.

Black and Red Cupcakes
Black and Red cupcakes can be created using frosting, fondant or most easily by sprinkling with black and red sugar.

Card Cupcake
The Card Cupcake is another very easy way to create a quick Alice in Wonderland themed cupcake.
To baked and frosted cupcakes (in the party theme colors) simply add a card, or a couple of cards from a mini card deck as decoration.
Extra cards from the mini card deck can be scattered on the table for decoration, as seen in the Host an Alice in Wonderland Party lens.
Card Deck Cake
The Card Deck Cake is a great addition to a Queen of Hearts inspired Alice in Wonderland theme.
After baking a tiered cake and frosting with white frosting, add the Edible Playing Cards according to the instructions.
Once the Playing Card Edible Images are in place, use a knife or mini cutters to cut fondant, fruit leather, fruit roll ups or rolled out gumdrops or lifesaver gummies to cut out the deck of cards shapes and add the final touches to the Card Cake.
