Amish Mash Pie with Ground Cherries and Strawberries
I used a double crust. Boiled the ground cherries. Added top crust. Poked top crust with knife point. Covered top crust with streusel topping.
Baked at 450° for 15 minutes, then a couple more to make sure golden brown place as truly color I liked
Took out, scraped some oozing filling from side of crust so it wouldn't siphon out onto pan under pie plate.
Let cool.
Ingredients
For the filling:
- 2 1/2 cups ground cherries
- 1 pound strawberries
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter
For the crust:
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup oil
Streusel crumb coating:
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
Crust
Bake 450° until golden brown. I think it will take 30-40 minutes for crust to do that, however, I am baking it at 450.
I'll check it in 15 minutes. It's starting to change color. There is bubbling.
