Nutritional Benefits of Rice Combinations

Updated on June 2, 2010

Rice is a very important ingredient in cooking for millions of people around the world and how being prepared can make a big difference in it nutritional effects. Simply adding or combining an additional ingredient can greatly increase the nutritional value of your rice recipe and even provide curative effects and therapeutic benefits.

1. Pumpkin Rice

The pumpkin contains pectin which when added to rice increases its viscosity. This makes the body absorb it more slowly and therefore is best suited for diabetics who need to control blood sugar levels through the food they eat. It also has other nutritional element named mannitol which regulates bowel movement and decreases the toxicity of feces, which prevents colon cancer.

2. Rice with sweet potato

The sweet potato is another important cooking ingredient which contains carbohydrate and cellulose which prevents constipation and reduces chances of developing bowel cancer. Sweet potato also helps prevent heart disease. Rice and beans combined together prevent and treat thesymptoms of excessive thirst, fever, and discomfort that is experienced whensuffering from heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Dal chawal is a favorite dish of Indians and of me too. In English, dal chawal means lentils and rice. Besides that there are many types of combinations of rice which can be consumed to form a healthy and balanced diet.

@Sandyspider, thank you so much friend.

@tonymac04, don't worry. You can try other rice combinations. Rice porridge is also somewhat effective in gout. Keep up the spirit. Thanks for the comment.

I really like this Hub because I am a rice fan myself! Thanks for the wonderful ideas of things to do with rice. One problem for me is that I have gout and have been told to avoid beans, so that delicious looking option is out for me!

      Love and peace

Thanks a lot Charanjeet Kaur. I had been preparing for this contest since last 10 days. I sacrificed my last month's hubchallenge for this contest. I sacrificed my 10 nights. Now I am always one day ahead that means I will always writing for a topic one day ahead. For example, I have completed writing 4 articles on dairy products and cheese today and will publish them tomorrow and will write on spices and flavorings tomorrow.

I was so unhappy when I was not in the list of countries in the March's Health hub contest. This time I am eligible and I will roll out maximum hubs.
