Delicious Buttermilk Donuts

My family and friends love them and I think everyone that looks at the picture will like them too.

They are made with buttermilk which makes them taste moist and yummy inside. You DO NOT NEED TO ROLL out the dough or wait for the yeast to rise for this recipe doesn't call for it and it saves time also. So go ahead and try one cause they are so gooood.

These donuts were made fresh today on June 22, 2014.

Prep time: 30 min
Cook time: 30 min
Ready in: 1 hour
Yields: 24 to a batch


  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 cups flour
  • oil for frying donuts


  1. The first thing to do is you mix well the shortening and beaten eggs. Then you add the dry ingredients which are the sugar, ginger, nutmeg, baking powder and baking soda. Then add your buttermilk to the mixture and mix that well. Then add your flour and mix that until you feel that the dough is soft and that the flour is all mixed together. If dough is too gooey to handle you can add more flour until the dough feels soft enough to work with in making the donuts. If desired you can add ½ teaspoon of cinnamon for extra flavor.
  2. The Second thing to do is prepare a well-floured surface and place the soft dough onto it and pat it out into a ½ inch - thickness and please "DO NOT ROLL". Then cut the dough using a 2/1/2 inch floured donut whole cutter.
  3. The Last thing to do is fry the donuts in deep fat fryer heating oil to 375 degrees and let them cook for 1 minute on each side and then drain them on a paper bag or paper towels. Let them cool and enjoy these delicious buttermilk donut recipe.

      @captainj88: I use Canola Oil for it doesn't have an odor when they are cooking.

      Do you have a favorite type of frying oil? I don't deep fry at home, but I'll start if it means having doughnuts. They're my biggest weakness. These look great!
