I'm searching for a recipe for a plain old fashioned donut. It is like a cake batter that is deep-fried. It can be eaten plain as is or coated with powdered icing sugar or sugared cinammon.
My Mom used to cook these for us kids when I was a child. Does anyone have a recipe for a plain old fashioned donut they might share?
I don't but I used to make them anyway. I just took some sort of dough (often the pre-made stuff for like rolls or whatever) get whatever cooking oil I have and bring it to a boil. Poke a hole in my round dough and pop it in the boiling oil, while trying not to splash myself or anything. Then the hard part, getting the doughnut out of the oil and put whatever topping I want on. Boy are home made donuts good!
Is it terrible that all I do for donuts is use the prepared buttermilk biscuits from the grocery store, make holes and fry em up like a regular donut? I've always liked the way they came out and it's super easy.
