French Bread Pizza

Updated on August 18, 2014

Call Your Friends - it's pizza time!

French Bread or Flat Bread Pizza! Yum! It's quick, easy, filling and fun. Sure you can buy some pre-packaged French Bread Pizza, but it's not the same, nor does it have the robust flavors that making your own French Bread Pizza has.

The first time I had this quick and easy pizza was at a teacher's Christmas gathering at a co-worker's home. There were loads of toppings we could choose from to make our own individualized pizza creation. Every pizza was as unique as the people at the party.

While the pizza was baking in the oven we had a chance to play a quick game of Trival Pursuit. The evening turned out to be a great success and one that I would copy in years to come.

Have an event coming up? Make your meal as special as your gathering by serving French Bread Pizza. You can't go wrong with this menu, because everyone eats what they like. With French Bread Pizza for dinner you'll spend more quality time with your friends without any extra cooking. It's a meal that's sure to please. Follow @favored110

Total cost: less than $10.00 (cost varies depending on how many toppings you desire)

A plain cheese French Bread Pizza that serves 4 will only cost about $5.00.

NOTE: This recipe does not include the cost of my sauce, which is homemade.

Materials: cookie sheet, foil, knife, spoon, cooling rack

Cook Time

Prep Time: 10-15 minutes

Total Time: 20-30 minutes

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of French or Italian bread
  • butter or margarine
  • tomato sauce

  • shredded 4 cheese pizza topping
  • chopped veggies: green or red peppers - black or green olives - mushrooms - broccoli
  • fruit (optional): chopped pineapple or mango
  • chopped meat: (optional for your meat eating friends) pepperoni - chicken - turkey - ground beef - ham -crabmeat - anchovies

Instructions

  1. Slice the bread in half or in the sizes you want.
  2. Lay bread on foil covered cookie tray
  3. Pull out some of the meatier parts of the bread so that it makes like a valley in the bread.
  4. Butter the insides of the bread.
  5. Spoon on tomato sauce.
  6. Add the cheese.
  7. Layer with veggies, and/or meat toppings
  8. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-12 minutes depending on how crispy you want your bread.

Recipe & Take-Out Menu Organizer

I don't know what others do with their recipe and meal related items, but I used to keep my take-out menus in a drawer by the phone. Instead of throwing the old ones out they just got shoved to the back of the desk. So I decided to put them in a folder to keep them organized. This convienent binder/organizer would have come in handy, but I didn't know it existed. There is plenty of room for menus, recipes and other meal topics in this handy three ring binder organizer.

Deliciously done, but is it legal to use "French" bread for pizza? The answer is, of course and enjoy the best of both worlds...that's having your French bread and eating your pizza too! Congratulations on being one of the 31 Best Pizzas! Oh, I remember when CHEF BOY-A-DEE Pizza came out, we thought it was pretty good back then and it was and adventure to make it.
