Nigella Lawson

Updated on September 24, 2014

Something Smells Good

If a goddess walked the earth today I am more than positive she would look like Nigella Lawson. Tall, curvaceous, long black hair, creamy skin, a British accent and totally charming.

Ten years ago, someone like Nigella would not have graced the regional television screens, never mind internationally. She is full figured, she is forty-eight, she is a mother of two and she is a successful business woman. And women and men adore her.

Nigella, whose name means "love-in-a-mist", started out as a freelance food writer in the U.K. In 1998 she published, How to Eat: The pleasures and principles of good food. The successful book led to her equally successful television series, Nigella Bites where she cooked up a storm. Numerous books and television shows followed.

Although the face of television has been slow to change it is nice to see it is improving. It could not have picked a better face, personality or talented chef to start off with.

Choco Hot Pots

I finally got around to trying Nigella Lawson's recipe for Choco Hot Pots and I have to agree they are totally yummy. The picture to the right is my attempt.

I baked them in six smaller ramekins than was recommended as the recipe is quite rich. I highly recommend you do the same as I can not imagine eating a larger serving. A side of milk is definitely in order no matter what size you choose.

You can find Nigella's description of Choco Hot Pots in the videos below.

The Books

More food for thought...

Nigella Lawson has produced seven food and cooking books based on her successful food series.

  • How to Eat (1998)
  • How to Be a Domestic Goddess (2000)
  • Nigella Bites (2001)
  • Forever Summer with Nigella (2002)
  • Forever Summer (2003)
  • Feast: Food to Celebrate Life (2004)
  • Nigella Express (2007)
  • Nigella Kitchen: Recipes from the Heart of the Home (2010)

Each of the above links will take you to her books so you can read the reviews.

Nigella's Recipes

Can you smell something cooking...

Nigella Lawson's succulent and easy to prepare recipes have delighted audiences the world over. A selection of the recipes from her television shows Forever Summer, Nigella Bites and Christmas Bites are available at the Channel 4 website.

"I am not a chef. I am not even a trained or professional cook. My qualification is as an eater."

One of the Most Beautiful People in the World

No kidding...

I first saw Nigella when she appeared on a cooking segment of a daytime talk show a number of years ago. I was instantly captured by her charm and natural beauty.

In my opinion, she is one of the most beautiful people in the world. Apparently, I am not the only one who thinks so. Harpers and Queen magazine voted her one of most beautiful people in the world on their list, not once but twice. She shared top standing with the likes of Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman, Kate Moss, Beyonce Knowles, Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Liv Tyler and Gwen Stefani; just to name a few.

It is no wonder, she does possess a goddess like quality to her... if goddesses walked the earth today.

Nigella Lawson: a biography

I just finished reading the biography of Nigella Lawson by Gilly Smith.

In this neck of the woods London born Nigella Lawson is not known for her tragic life.

She's known as the Domestic Goddess and Queen of the Food-porn television series Nigella Bites as well as her growing array of cooking books.

Big fan! She definitely is a Goddess! My partner can't stand her, and every time I watch her show on television he makes fun of her. I think he secretly has a crush on her and pretends not to. It's the only explanation I can think of! ;-)

Any time I am channel surfing and come across Nigella, I always stop and enjoy the show. I don't quite know why I'm so attracted to listening to British women talk. I've actually tried one or two of her simpler recipes with great success.

I'm a big Nigella fan. I've got her book Nigella Express and every recipe I've tried has worked really well. I wish she'd quit the soft porn thing on TV though. If I want to watch stuff like that I've got the internet! I want to see you cook Nigella, not flirt with the fat middle age men fantasizing about you at home!

I found Nigella's Caramel Croissant Pudding video while writing a post over at my blog and thought I'd die and go to heaven to make and eat that decadent dish. Appreciated the read and learning more about Nigella.

Nigella mesmerises men and women alike. Every woman wants to be her especially the way she brings simple ingredients together to make something special in no time at all. She is elegant and smart and I for one have increased my vocabulary by watching her programmes :P

I love Nigella...she's talented and beautiful and she's had an awful lot of tragedy in her life but she never puts on the "poor me" badge like so many other celebrities seem to. A very admirable lady :)

She's 47? I didn't realise that. She looks fabulous full stop! (Not just "for her age/body shape/etc")
