Here are some of my favorite simple chili recipes you can throw together in no time to feed your hungry crew! Busy moms need an arsenal of easy chili recipes to wrangle together!
Your time is limited. Mine too! We go all out to cook for our families when we can, but there are days when I just cannot fit in homework, music lessons, soccer game and cooking supper!
We all have our favorite version of the classic chili recipe. Feel free to adapt any of these recipes to suit your tastes. Switch things up! If the recipe calls for rice and you like macaroni, boil up some elbows!
You love chili loaded with beans, but the recipe is beanless? Open a can of beans and throw them in!
Got a mild recipe, but you love fiery chili? No problem! Toss in a couple of tablespoons of chili powder.
Honestly, when it comes to chili, it is hard to go wrong. Experiment and try different things. Throw in a can of corn. Substitute beer for the water. Got some leftover salsa? Dump that in too!

10-Minute Chili
Simple Chili Recipe No. 1
Here is a very simple chili recipe from my Aunt Madaline that you can make in 10 minutes! This recipe makes 4 servings.
Step 1. Brown 1/2 lb. of ground beef in a skillet, then drain off the fat.
Step 2. Add the following ingredients:
2 Tablespoons instant minced onion
1 15-oz. can Tomato sauce with herbs
1 15-oz. can kidney beans, do not drain
2 to 3 teaspoons chili powder
Step 3. Simmer this mixture for 5 minutes and serve piping hot.
Here is a chili I concocted one winter evening when I needed a quick supper between homework and basketball practice. It was a hit with my family. Your family will enjoy it too!
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 chopped green pepper
- 1 large can sloppy joe sauce
- 1 can kidney beans
- 1 can garbanzo beans (or substitute another bean)
Instructions
- Brown hamburger with onions and green peppers. Drain off fat. Add sloppy joe sauce. Add beans. Simmer. Serve over brown rice.
Children's Chili - Simple Chili Recipe No. 3
This is a good chili for children because it is not spicy. This recipe makes enough for the kids. If you want to serve this to your family, double the recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1/4 onion finely chopped or grated
- 1 8 -oz. can tomato sauce
- 1 40 -oz. can pork and beans drained
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Brown the gound beef with the onion and drain. In a large saucepan, combine the meat and onion mixture and remaining ingredients. Simmer twenty minutes to allow flavors to blend. Serve with grated cheddar cheese sprinkled on top.
