Someone Say Shrimp?

Updated on November 8, 2014

The Taste of Shrimp

Taste the succulent and delightful goodness of shrimp. These small crustaceans can be served hot or cold. They are one of the most popular appetizers in the United States. Raw shrimp is low in calories and saturated fat. Shrimp are an excellent source of selenium, high in protein and a very good source of vitamin D and vitamin B12.

Invite your friends over by sending out some Barbecue Shrimp Party Invitations. Put on your shrimp apron and fire up that grill.

If it is the wrong season, a nice get together with friends is in store. Start off with some shrimp cocktail. The sauce is easy to make. If it is more formal, how about making shrimp scampi?

I can hear them now! "Did someone say shrimp!"

This recipe came from Barbecue Recipes. It is one of many delicious recipes found in the Barbecue Recipe ebook, which can be downloaded separately by going to Barbecue Recipes at ebooktreesaver.com or within a collection of 6 mouth watering recipe books from making bread to getting that best cup of coffee.

Ingredients:

12 Giant Prawns, shelled and heads and tails intact

1/4 cup Butter

1 cup Orange juice (freshly, squeezed)

2 tablespoons Sherry

1 teaspoon Orange Zest (grated)

2 each Green onions, tops and white

1 teaspoon Ginger root, (freshly grated)

Directions:

Soak a dozen long wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes. Then push skewers through prawns, lengthwise, from head to tail with only 1 to a skewer. Combine all ingredients in saucepan and cook over medium to low heat, stirring, until butter is completely melted. Dip skewered prawns in the orange sauce and position on oiled grill rack about 4 inches above the coals. Baste liberally with sauce and grill for 2 minutes. Turn the prawn over and baste again, cooking for another 2 minutes. Smaller prawn will be done at this point, but continue basting and turning larger prawn until they are pink and cooked through. Remove from heat immediately when done, as they will get tough if overcooked. Use any remaining sauce for a dip for the prawns.

Okay, as strange as this is going to sound, I could ACTUALLY give you a hug right about now! I have been afraid to look up the sodium content shrimp because I figured it was naturally high. I LOVE shrimp and have all of my life. So I noticed you did not have the sodium content listed in the nutrition information and I went and looked it up. For a 3oz. serving of steamed shrimp the sodium content is 195mg. and if you have High Chrolestrol it is still safe to eat steamed shrimp at least once a week- if you give up eating an egg during that week. That means Ms. Spider, you brought Shrimp back into my life.. yippee!!
