The best summer vegetables are fresh from your garden. We have planted our own organic vegetables for years. Not only are they healthier than the chemical laced vegetables in the grocery stores, they are better tasting. In the grocery stores, many unsanitized hands have handled these vegetables from workers and customers. Do you really think everyone washes his or her hands?
Gardening can be a lot of work, but it is well worth it.
Often we will have steamed vegetables as the main course in a meal. Steaming vegetables keeps most of the valuable vitamins and nutrients over any other type of cooking. The fun thing about steaming vegetables is that you can mix and match a variety of veggies to produce a different taste.
Below is a simple recipe of garden fresh steamed vegetables. Cooking these vegetables is easy to do, healthy for you and great tasting.

Three Ways to Steaming Vegetables
Steam Vegetables with Electric Steamer
First way to steaming vegetables
Ingredients:
1 Cup Broccoli (cut into florets)
1 Cup Cauliflower (break into florets)
1 Small Purple Onion (cut lengthwise in 8 pieces)
1 Cup Baby Carrots (slice in half) or Sliced Carrots
Season to taste with any of these:
Lemon Pepper
Seasoning blend (Mrs. Dash)
Pepper
Salt Substitute
Sea Salt
Squeeze of Lemon
Substitution vegetables:
Zucchini
Red potatoes
Celery
Green Beans
Directions:
Add water to the bottom of the electric steamer. Add vegetables and choice of seasoning to steamer and cook according to desired crispness. Between 5 to 15 min. depending on how crisp or tender. Serve as a side dish or main course.

Directions:
Use the same ingredients as above. Boil water in a large pot with steamer basket or a steamer pot complete with basket Add vegetables in boiling water for 3 to 15 min. for desired tenderness. Drain and place in bowl. Add seasoning to taste. Bon Appetite.

To microwave the vegetables, follow directions in the recipe above and add just enough water. Microwave vegetables on high for 3 minutes, check for tenderness and water content. Continue cooking a few more minutes if desired.
For crisper vegetables cook less time.
