A Possible Series of Riddles #4

Rules
Please respect them:
1. One guess per person at a time, when I respond to you that is your cue to answer again or bask in your winning of the riddle.
2. Reading through the comments is cheating! Don't ruin it for yourself and others!
What Am I?
I command kings,
And I command queens.
Just as I have commanded,
So have others commanded me.
Ancient am I and ancient my practice,
My true definition lost through vulgar retelling.
Feminine be my original wielders,
But envy led to masculine adoption.
I'm a tool that builds dynasties,
Legacies and desires too.
When used for destruction,
Your enemies shall rue.
I promise you all that you want,
You are powerless to resist me.
I'm something we can flaunt,
Or I can also be sneaky.
Use me to your heart's content,
I'm never one to judge.
I may be fooling you in the end,
Lacking will cause you to begrudge.
Find me at the bar, a club, or even the pool,
Find me wherever, I'm a universal tool.
Live a life without me and choose to be plain,
Live a life full of me and see nothing but gain!
A Hard One!
It is within the more difficult riddles, the ones that could apply to so many different topics, that you need to take the time to think outside the box. Riddles won't give you the answer unless you seek it yourself, and when you fall upon that "Aha!" moment it is so worth the effort. Every line is a piece of the puzzle, and you cannot brute-force the fit!
Then again, maybe you're the type to like it quick and easy, well then I suggest you pay close attention on your first read through! It is easy to miss that little piece that gives the answer away.
