A Possible Series of Riddles #6

Rules
Please respect them:
1. One guess per person at a time, when I respond to you that is your cue to answer again or bask in your winning of the riddle.
2. Reading through the comments is cheating! Don't ruin it for yourself and others!
What Am I?
Waves created by a tossed stone
Hitting calm waters may take my name.
For those who observe closely,
I'm a big part of their game.
I can be very literal,
Call out and I call back.
Or I can be metaphor,
Returning the information you lack.
Boom goes an explosion,
Or did you hear it as many?
Farther increases my erosion,
And louder can produce plenty.
I can come in the form of memory,
You'll hear me when you least expect it.
Maybe you hear me yell back,
From the bottom of a dark pit.
From the resonance of every action you take,
I'm there in many forms.
All you need to find me is to listen,
Or observe the consequences of actions yore.
Metaphor and Riddles
Any time I am writing riddles I start to think back to the days where I took philosophical practice too seriously. Metaphors always seemed to litter philosophy all throughout the ages, and honestly, the simplicity of modern philosophy allows too many to contort the meanings of philosophical teachings. The complexity of metaphors often upset me because they muddle harsh truths that people then misinterpret for their own comfort.
This is why I like riddles so much. They aren't so serious, yet for me they contain the same air as the philosophy I enjoy.
