Age of Sparta Mobile Game Tips and Tricks Guide
Background of Age of Sparta
Age of Sparta is the latest war strategy game brought to you by Gameloft and it is set in ancient Greece. Because of this, every battle is tinged with Greek mythology and your warriors range from the weak slinger to tremendous creatures known to snap opposing warriors like twigs. The experience of playing the game is a lot like the other games in the genre, but there's a level of polish which I appreciate. And my general rule is that I only write tips and tricks guides for games that I put in a lot of time with, so in other words, I have to think highly about my subject. So that tells you all you need to know about my feelings for Age of Sparta and what leads me to write the Age of Sparta Mobile Game Tips and Tricks Guide.
Age of Sparta Gameplay
Core Gameplay
For those of you new to the game, I could recommend a guide for beginners, but it's easier to touch on some common tips and strategies for beginners right here:
- There is a lot of battling going on between single player campaigns and the PVP element which pits you against other live players
- You constantly have to manage both your gold coins and the premium currency of the game (gems/jewels)
- On top of that, you also have to occasionally raise your population, develop more lightning bolts to take actions, and build boosts to make more out of your base structures
- Social currency is rewarded for your PVP exploits, and is used to purchase higher level troops, so it is essential to long-term success
- You need to spent coins or gems to expand your geographical footprint so you have room to build more structures. Later on in the game, this can be exorbitantly expensive.
- You will not only build base troops, but you'll also spend a lot of time fusing them to level up your troops
- You'll become part of an alliance which comes with perks like being able to support one another in battle, not to mention the additional PVP battle opportunities
So that's your day-to-day gameplay in a nutshell.

Tip 1: The Lottery
The lottery is your daily opportunity to get something for free (or for gems if you go with the premium or deluxe options). From my experience, I can vouch for paying the extra gems for the deluxe option, and even the premium options though I feel less strongly about the later.
When I played through with the free lottery choice, I ended up getting a Gorgon troop which didn't even make my starting rotation. So while it's nice to have another fighter in my arsenal, it's more important to quickly scale the military options with higher-level troops.
The one time I went with the deluxe lottery pick, I ended up getting a pretty high-level aerial troop which was fantastic because I didn't have other aerial troops at the time. And because of the strength of that troop, it's made me significantly stronger than my peers in PVP. I'll get into that more in the next tip.

Tip 2: Air Superiority Early and Often
As I mentioned above, getting my first aerial troop was a huge boost because it ended up being a high level troop that I wouldn't normally be able to recruit until I had leveled up a few more times. Getting a strong troop is good enough on its own, but getting an aerial troop was a huge boost because most of the competition at the time either had no aerial troops, or they had 1 lower-level aerial troop.
So in a nutshell, my premium lottery choice ended up winning my half a dozen PVP battles all by itself. And now that I'm pumping out aerial troops, I plan on staying superior in the air for the rest of the game.

Tip 3: Slow Your Roll For Quests
This is more of a cautionary point than a tip, but it bears worth repeating. Most of the quests that you're given in Age of Sparta are independent of your achievements up until this point. So after installing ten different boosts across your lands, you might get a quest that tells you to install five new boosts because you were playing ahead of the game.
This becomes problematic because resources are hard to come by, and every quest is essential to keep your economy and military running as a well-oiled machine. So the lesson to be learned is that you should take your time when it comes to building new structures and how you place them. And you should review your quests at the beginning of a new gaming session so that you can keep new quests coming which will keep the rewards coming.

Tip 4: Fusion Tipping Point
Fusing your troops is a huge part of the game that is crucial for long-term success because it takes a couple weaker troops to make a vastly superior version. Early on, it makes all the difference in battles because you're sometimes paired against an opponent that hasn't fused their troops at all. When that happens, you're victorious 99 out of 100 times.
But while fusing is relatively inexpensive the first couple times you do it with a troop, you'll notice that fusing a troop to level 4 is crazy expensive. That's the tipping point and unless you have money to burn, you're better off investing in more level 3 troops than in building up 1 level 4 troop.

Tip 5: Boons Really Are Boons For Battle
During your first couple of battles, you're introduced to the concept of boons to be used during battle. They're basically power ups that you use at different points during the battle, primarily to inflict damage, heal your troops, or tilt the odds in your favor in some other way. While useful early on, they also require resources to create them so I mostly overlooked them.
But as battles get more difficult, and especially when you're facing quality PVP opponents, boons often end up being the difference maker between victory and defeat. Who knew that a catapult blast at the beginning of the battle would end up being the difference?
So once you have access to some better boons, make sure you're creating new ones constantly so you have the upper hand in future battles.
