Agent Alice for iPhone and iPad

Hidden object games can feel like a dime a dozen, and on top of that they are usually bloated apps that take up all the available memory on your device. But in a sharp departure, Agent Alice combines well-defined core gameplay with a terrific storyline and excellent production values. It's one of the most pleasant surprises in gaming over the past month, and it's been a joy playing and improving in the game. And because it's one of the games that I specialize in, I'm looking forward to sharing this Agent Alice Mobile Game Tips and Tricks Strategy Guide.

Let's get right to making you a faster player so that you can improve your scores!

Agent Alice Core Gameplay Strategy

The best hints and strategy for any game start with the core gameplay, so that same rule prevails for Agent Alice. Here's what you can look forward to in the game:

  • You spend energy to investigate crime scenes to find objects.
  • As you collect objects you gain points, and collect stars.
  • You spend stars to advance the story by interviewing suspects, examine clues, etc.
  • Examining clues usually requires a mini-game where you put together shreds of paper like a puzzle, or re-arrange pieces of a picture so it displays correctly
  • And you will have to re-play crime scenes to collect extra stars so that you solve the crime at hand.

It's always a good sign when the core gameplay is strong, and obviously that is the case here. With that, let's move on to the next part of the Agent Alice Mobile Game Tips and Tricks Strategy Guide.

Tip 1: Take a Moment at the Start

When the clock is ticking during a hidden object game like this, your first thought is naturally to find the first object as fast as possible. But the problem is that you're given 4 objects to find at a time, so your first move should actually be to look up and identify those 4 objects. Then when you're rushing from one object to another, you've still got a couple in the back of your mind so that you don't lose any momentum as you're playing.

Just make sure that the moment you take is a short one, because you don't have all day to sit around before getting to work!

Tip 2: Finish the Level Fast

I'm reminded of an episode of The Office when Michael Scott explains to his boss that his employees can take a movie break during the day, because they work faster after the movie. And that's because you need to move quickly to make up for the lost time, right? The same logic applies to Agent Alice. After taking a moment in the beginning to get your ducks in a row and set yourself up for success, you need to move like the wind and find objects one after another.

The faster you finish the level, the better your bonus is, and the closer you get to the next star. Everyone has different tips for moving quickly in a hidden object game, but I find that chewing game keeps my brain working so it keeps my reflexes at the top of their game. I'd love to hear your tips for making sure your reaction time is at its peak.

Tip 3: Grab Hints As They Become Available

The first time, and often the second time, you enter any new crime scene there are going to be some glaring points of emphasis. These are clues that divulge information about the crime committed, and they're generally very easy to find. The problem is that just because you walk in and see a bloody knife doesn't mean that you can actually click on it, because if it is not one of your 4 available items you're out of luck for the time being.

The best advantage you get when actually finding a hint is that the game pauses with a dimmed background to acknowledge your discovery. But if you still remember the other items you are looking to find, then you may be able to see them in the dimmed background while the game is paused. So finding hints is like a built-in bonus.

Tip 4: Combo Your Discoveries on a Rhythm

Generating combos in Agent Alice is the biggest factor in raising your score each time you play. Once you find a second item within a given period of time, the timer starts for you to find your next item. If the timer runs out before you find an item, then you lose your combo bonus and you have to start over. But if you are able to chain together the finding of items, then you get up to a 6x bonus on items found.

So the key is to have a few items in mind, and to click on them one at a time on a set rhythm so you are maintaining your combo bonus.

Tip 5: Remembering Locations is Essential

Have you ever noticed how getting the 3rd or 4th star on a level is considerably more difficult? It's because there are new items added to the crime scene, and sometimes familiar items are in different places. So the first time through you're probably going to take longer than you'd like, and your score won't be worth bragging about.

But that's all fine because it's a learning experience, and remembering the locations of these new items is what will allow you to reach a higher score next time.
