Auchenai Soulpriest + Mistress of Pain deadly interaction.

Updated on January 26, 2016

It doesn’t happen a lot in Hearthstone, but there is a sleight possibility (1.14% chance that you get it out of a Piloted Shredder to be correct) that you end up with a Mistress of Pain under your control while you play a Priest deck. If you are playing against a Warlock deck it’s even more possible because Shadow Madness, Thoughtsteal, Mind Vision, Cabal Shadow Priest, Mind Control, Mind Control Tech, Mindgames, Entomb Etc. can all give you control over Mistress of Pain. So whatever Priest deck you are playing, if it has Auchenai Soulpriest in it, you might get into this situation.

You would think that a minion that heals your hero is an awesome addition to your deck. And in itself the minion is indeed awesome, only when you use it with Auchenai Soulpriest on the board a very strange thing will happen. You attack a minion with your Mistress, and suddenly you're dead! Yes, DEAD, for just doing 1 damage with your tiny weak Mistress of Pain minion!

Wonder why that is?

Why do you die?

It is actually simple when you think about it, but these steps will make it easier to understand why this happens:

  1. Mistress of Pain deals her 1 damage.
  2. Then it triggers to heal your hero.
  3. Your Auchenai Soulpriest converts that heal into 1 damage to your hero.
  4. Because of that conversion Mistress of Pain indirectly dealt 1 damage to your hero so it triggers to heal your hero again.
  5. Auchenai Soulpriest converts the heal again into 1 damage.
  6. It's a loop, you take 1 damage until you're dead.

Not a bug

This interaction is not a bug, and it is intended to happen this way.
So the next time you are playing Control Priest, you will think twice about taking control of a Mistress of Pain! Cause doing so can cause you to instantly lose the game!

There is one thing we can learn from this however:

"No Priest should ever steal another man's mistress!"
