Streets of rage one of the best old school beat em up games

Does anyone other then myself remember the video game trilogy Streets Of Rage. I mean this game was epic. I remember seeing the main character when I was seven years old and thinking baggy jeans, white undershirt, muscular beyond belief, knocking bad people out. I want to grow up look like that (minus the blonde hair) and go around beating up bad guys for a living. I thought he had the coolest job in the world. Anyway what side scroll-er could even touch Streets of Rage. The Final Fight series was good but it couldn't compare to Streets of Rage. The characters, the music, the game play, even the story was just untouchable by other games in the genre. The option to be evil, talk about before its time. This game had everything from different types of enemies, to diverse bosses. Not to mention at the time there were not too many games where you could pick up a two by four and knock someone out. Knife throwing, slugging people with bats, all the stuff that as a kid you couldn't believe you were doing. Every aspect of this game was fun, never a dull moment. Each level had music that had such an urban feel you could imagine rappers hopping on the tracks sometimes. Though teaching kids to be vigilantes isn't necessarily good in some parents eyes, it still showed right from wrong for the most part. If you never had a Sega genesis and have not experienced any of the Streets of Rage titles you are missing out. This is one of the consoles guiltiest pleasure. I'm telling you no matter how many side scrolling beat em ups you may have played they will not compare to Streets of Rage. Which now getting to my point, how has this game not gotten a next gen upgrade. I've heard its been released in compilations for different consoles, but how has it not gotten a graphics boost. This game should be re-released and even if you don't change the game, that is in a sense perfect, add some new levels. Not to mention its time for a fourth release. I think there had been talk about it on the Saturn but it never happened. The remakes of this game as far as what you can find on PlayStation 2 and other systems really don't give anything new. I mean nothing new is really needed in such a great game. Personally I find that Streets Of Rage is everything that beat em are suppose to be. Short of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle games beat em ups were usually kind of clunky. I mean think about your favorite side scrolling beat em up game. Whether it was in the arcade or at home the game mechanics for usually kind of choppy. Even Final Fight which in it's own right is a legend of the beat em up world, I always felt that it was missing something. Now listen the NES original games was an absolute classic. It is probably one of the main contributors to the creation of future beat em up games of that generation. However, when final fight was released for the super Nintendo entertainment system it seemed like they just copied and pasted streets of rage. Not only did they just kind of make a copy but they kind of made one that was no where near as good. The fighting wasn't fluid like Streets of Rage. I mean the characters attacks were very slow and did not have good response time with buttons. On top of that the amount of range and different punches was pretty much absent. The game really can't live up to the ultimate beat em up which is Streets of Rage. Someone told me the Dragon Force games were sequels to Streets of Rage. All I can say is I hope not. If you guys agree with me let me know and if your old time fans list your favorite part of the game. What was memorable to you guys from Streets of Rage? If you haven't played this, get this game. It doesn't matter if you play it on Sega or PlayStation 2 but get this game. No one will regret playing these games.
