Barbie Dolls In The Barbie Collection

Updated on February 5, 2015

Diamond Barbie.

Hello Barbie Let's Go Party!

So how much would you be prepared to spend on your child's Barbie this year? A few Pounds or dollars? Then of course, there's the extra bits and pieces.

Soon adds up, doesn't it? But as we know it's not too bad. Unless it is Diamond Barbie.

Never heard of it? Well, hopefully your child won't either. Diamond Barbie is a barbie doll with a difference. She was just sold at auction in New York for a whopping great $302,500 (£191,500)! Yep, you read that right!

So who in their right mind would spend that amount on a doll? It seems that it's not the doll that is causing a stir, it's the necklace that is the expensive part. An anonymous bidder decided that it was worth the money. well to be quite honest, two phrases come to mind.

A fool and his money are soon parted, and, more money than sense! Or is it more astute than that? In the future, the novelty of this item will go up in price, and barbie collectors will be scrabbling to get their hands on it. The funny thing about it is the fact that it was sold at a lower price than previously thought! Yikes! This one off Barbie was created by Stefano Canturi, and she wears a black strapless evening dress with the Choker featuring a one Carat square cut pink Diamond.

Barbie hit the shops in 1959, and since then she has gone through many transformations. But this is the first time that this sort of auction has taken place. It seems that, to invest in something different or even strange is the new norm these days. Evidently people are starting to invest in different ways of buying Gold, Gems and diamonds. But what about the rest of the barbie fans? Well there are a great collection for you to buy this year, and luckily they are not so expensive!

So there you have it! If you want to buy yourself or you child a gift for Christmas, then you can splash out and buy yourself one of these! Seriously, I started collecting Barbie when I was a small child, and unfortunately somewhere along the line, moving and throwing things away, I lost all of mine, but they still bring back memories!

So what is out there this year? Every year new toys start appearing, and children forget the wonder and joy of the good old faithfuls. if you like dolls when you are a child, you can guarantee that you will have a barbie in your collection somewhere. So let's take a look some of the newbies.

Barbie Dresses Like the Three Musketeers!

Barbie And The Three Musketeers!

Barbie is set to star in her very first film. Apart from an occasional appearance in a few annimated films and a bit part in Toy Story, She is now the latest toy to be given a Hollywood film deal! Universal Pictures have acquired the rights for a movie based on these famous dolls. So if you want to keep up with the new film, then Barbie Musketeer doll is the one for you!

Better Than Diamonds!

So How about that! there are so many great accessories that you can buy for Barbie. Caravans, houses, clothes, but I thought it was time just for Barbie herself! As you can see there are some great new character costumes. I personally love the Musketeer! And this brought back so many memories! Well, before I suddenly realised that to play with my brothers toys was so much more fun, but that was when I was older, and of course I was a Tom Boy! My mother could never understand why I didn't want to play with the pram and dolls, but much prefered to use my brothers water pistol to shoot the cat out of the tree! But that's another story!

Enjoy!

Yikes, I can't believe that price. Maybe parents will think twice about throwing out old toys now, especially Barbies. Voting this Up and Interesting.

Woe. Woe is me. I always dated Barbie for free. Cool as I am, I aint no bling, bling man. Now she got a contract with Universal cause she is a 20th century fox, she got the bling and the fo real rox. What's a rappin doll like me to do? guess I'll need a recording deal to stay real.

Hi, pmccray, thanks so much for coming over, I quite agree with you, my brother would go nuts if he saw this! he had to sell his house, and buy a smaller one! my mother used to say, More money than sense! lol cheers nell

Hi, dawn, I don't blame your daughter! ha ha they are so boring these days, but this one was just a silly man being pretentious! I do think the proceeds went to charity though so maybe it wasn't so bad, but as you said, just hand over the money in the first place! cheers nell

Hi, GMaGoldie, thanks for stopping by, she has been around for a long time, hasn't she? I think she's the same age as me!........lol cheers nell

Hi Nell, I used to love barbies as a kid, but really what a joke, sell the darn thing and feed some famalies for the holiday. Like pmccy said a hunk of plastic. Thanks for sharing. Oh by the way for some reason my little girl doesn't even like barbies...lol

Oh my goodness . . can mankind and it's shallowness become any worse? $191,000 for a hunk of plastic and a hank of synthetic hair? My gosh, I could have split my mortgage in half with that kind of dough. But hey it's the fools money, I'm just shocked at the extent of mans lack of priorities. Voted up, marked awesome and shared.

They should've put the diamond barbie in Toy Story 3, haha. I still remember my barbies when I was little. I gave them to little girl who doesn't have toys to play with. Neil, great find on this diamond barbie.

Hi, Arlecchino, I know I wanted one too! ha ha for my friends little girl so she could break it in five minutes like they tend to do! it is rediculous, some people live in a different world! thanks nell

That's priceless that you like Barbies. I hate Barbies and always have since I was a little girl....only because my sister was 'perfect' and that's all she did all day long was play with Barbies. I think I have an anti-Barbie outlook now and maybe I need counseling!

Seriously, maybe I'd love the Diamond Barbie!

Did they have only one Diamond Barbie? I was going to buy one for this price LOL.

As for me it's absolutely ridiculous that someone can spend thousands buying doll or necklace for pets.

Hi, Melinda, I only spotted this today, and couldn't resist it! I also prefered playing with my brothers toys too, so this wouldn't have appealed to me, I all ready had all the barbie dolls then I got fed up with them! but I will have the necklace! ha ha thanks nell

Oh dear...Two hundred thousand pounds...ha ha ha..

Well, if it is a present for a little girl, the diamond choker is not necessary, lol..

I was never into Barbie..more into softball bats and balls, I had one doll which I remembered, but it was fun to read your hub, Nell, always.

      Love,

      Melinda
